the na :e of one of the Yemeni quarters<br />

of the town of Rehovoth, which lion some 20 kilometrou to<br />

the south of Tel Aviv, in Israel. It wan originally a<br />

4stinct political community, lying alongside of the<br />

'I: oshavnh " or Rehovoth, which was then little more than<br />

a village. But gradually, the administrative network of<br />

the 'Mochavah' spread out to include all of the neighbouring<br />

villages and settlements under one municipal authority,<br />

and 5haarayim loot its official status an a separate<br />

community. Despite this, it retained certain distinct<br />

features as a nub-community, which were still evident in<br />

1958, ton years after its final incorporation into the<br />

The term 'foehavah', meaning 'colony' or 'settlement'<br />

is used in Israel to refer to the earliest aericulturul<br />
