6 2004 50c Student Design Proof & Uncirculated Coins Over 2 500 entries were received in the national design competition for this coin. John Serrano, a Year 5/6 student (2003) at St Peter’s Primary School, East Keilor, Victoria, created the winning design. John’s design addressed the theme ‘Australia’ with artwork that reflects the character of three of our most recognisable bush characters – the wombat, the lorikeet and the koala. The artwork has a sense of warmth and attention to detail that made it a clear choice for judges. John’s initials have been incorporated on the reverse of this coin as recognition of his achievement.
