New Cat ® C9 ACERT ® engine with 575 mhp launched
at Miami
New engine technology helps Caterpillar raise the stakes in 35’ – 50’ planing hull
pleasure craft and sport fishing markets
Caterpillar comes to Miami with a new, higher powered version of the outstandingly
successful C9 marine propulsion engine, thanks to the introduction of its revolutionary
new emissions and engine performance ACERT Technology.
The new C9 engine with ACERT Technology retains its 8.8 liter format and has the same
dimensions as the existing 510 mhp (375 bkW) C9 engine but offers a new planing hull
pleasure craft and sports fishing rating of 575 mhp (423 bkW) – designed to meet the
high power, low weight, small footprint requirements of vessels in the 35’ – 50’ hull
class.
Using Caterpillar’s ACERT ‘building block’ technology, the new C9 features new
injectors, piston design and cylinder head design as well as new exhaust valves,
turbocharger arrangement and electronic control module – a combination which has
enabled Caterpillar to increase engine power by almost 13%, with no impact on the
dimensions, footprint or weight.
The new C9 engine with ACERT Technology will deliver significantly improved
performance including faster acceleration and higher top speed than the existing C9 and,
like the existing engine, has a flat power curve from around 2000 rpm to 2500 rpm
making maximum power available all the way from cruising speed to top speed, for
maximum, instantaneous performance.

The additional performance achieved in the new C9 ACERT engine will have no
detrimental effect upon engine life, maintenance schedules, or fuel consumption - indeed
the more complete combustion delivered by the ACERT Technology is likely to extend
engine life at the same time as increasing power output and reducing exhaust emissions.
