Goals and Characteristics<br />

Applications are now being accepted for a one<br />

year Spine <strong>Surgery</strong> Fellowship (2 positions)<br />

beginning August 1, 2013 through July 31,<br />

2014. <strong>The</strong> fellow will gain extensive and well<br />

founded clinical experience in the evaluation and<br />

treatment <strong>of</strong> complex primary and revision spinal<br />

surgery.<br />

<strong>The</strong> fellow will be exposed to the full range <strong>of</strong><br />

degenerative, traumatic, oncologic, deformity,<br />

arthroplasty, and minimally invasive surgical<br />

treatments <strong>of</strong> disorders <strong>of</strong> the cervical, thoracic<br />

and lumbar spine. <strong>The</strong> fellow will also have the<br />

opportunity to participate in clinical activities with<br />

neurosurgery. <strong>The</strong> fellow will also be involved<br />

in the teaching <strong>of</strong> residents, organizing spine<br />

conference and conducting research that will lead<br />

to at least a single publication. <strong>The</strong> fellow will<br />

attend weekly clinical and research conferences.<br />

Lastly, opportunities will exist for participation in<br />

basic science research with Dr. James Iatridis. All<br />

candidates must have completed an Orthopaedic<br />

or Neurosurgery residency and must be Boardeligible<br />

or Board certified prior to fellowship.<br />

Adult Reconstruction Surgeon<br />

<strong>The</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Orthopedic <strong>Surgery</strong> at LSUHSC-Shreveport is seeking<br />

an Assistant/Associate/Full Pr<strong>of</strong>essor basic science researcher. This candidate<br />

will help shape the future <strong>of</strong> the orthopedic research section with substantial<br />

resources allocated from the LSU Foundation to build on the current<br />

biomechanics, biomaterials, and histology laboratories within the department.<br />

Besides the biomechanics laboratory, the biomaterials laboratory has developed<br />

tissue culture techniques to grow cartilage and bone cells to supplement<br />

research efforts. Within LSU Health Shreveport, the department has access to<br />

an AAALAC accredited animal research facility.<br />

In addition to independent research, this individual will be involved in the<br />

research training <strong>of</strong> orthopedic residents and interact with the orthopedic<br />

faculty. Orthopedic subspecialty interest in trauma related research is preferred.<br />

Applicants should have a PhD and/or MD with relevant postgraduate<br />
