! IX. Project Status ! On March 31, 2011, Deepwater submitted a bid from this Project to LIPA’s Generation and Transmission RFP for up to 2,500 MW issued on August 20, 2010. An award by LIPA of a Power Purchase Agreement for DWEC could materially accelerate the site control and permitting process. ! 27
! X. Public Outreach ! Deepwater recognizes the importance of community outreach and engagement. The Project offers significant benefits to New York State and Long Island. Deepwater is currently implementing a plan to communicate those benefits to LIPA’s ratepayers. This plan has been informed by the thousands of megawatts of wind project development with which Deepwater’s management and its Board of Managers have been involved. The Project is expected to be cost-comparable with other new sources of generation and, as such, is expected to have minimal bill impacts on LIPA’s customers as compared to other new supply sources. At the same time, the Project offers compelling systemic benefits that differentiate it. Specifically, the Project is designed to further LIPA’s 2010 to 2020 Electric Resource Plan by: 1) diversifying its generation portfolio to improve system reliability; 2) advancing its hedging program to reduce energy price volatility; 3) cost-effectively increasing it’s renewable energy generation; and 4) providing significant near-term reduction in greenhouse gas and criteria pollutant emissions. Deepwater has also been working closely with the members of the Long Island Offshore Wind Coalition (http://www.windworks4li.org/ ) that was formed in December 2011 and includes leading business, industry, labor and environmental groups in downstate New York. Deepwater will continue to engage important stakeholders in New York, including ratepayer, business, labor, environmental, marine trades and community groups among others. ! 28
