Our Purposes • To see how the pretest RDD function helps with functional form assumptions • To see how it reduces standard errors of causal estimates • Especially, to see if causal estimates AWAY from the cutoff are unbiased relative to the RCT
Creating A Regression Discontinuity • Array the two RCT groups along an assignment variable. We have T and C observations at all points on the assignment variable. • Set a cut-off determining T vs C status • For the standard RD, we remove all T cases one side of cutoff and all C cases from the other side. Now we have T and C groups determined only by cutoff score and hence RD.
