From the survey of literature I t IS found that<br />

the studies on behaviour of schools <strong>in</strong> community conte~t<br />

are very few. One reason <strong>for</strong> lack of such studies may<br />

be In operationalis<strong>in</strong>g the concept of community In<br />

relation to a school <strong>in</strong> the urban conte~ts. In general<br />

research scholars have neglected the rural socIal<br />

context.<br />

Thus there is a need <strong>for</strong> specifIcally focussed<br />

studies US<strong>in</strong>g the rural settlements as the unIt of<br />

analysis to underst<strong>and</strong> the dynamic nature <strong>and</strong> changes In<br />

the availability of school<strong>in</strong>g facllitles, the<br />

qualitative aspects of the available schoolIng<br />

facilities <strong>and</strong> the <strong>in</strong>teraction of the socIal <strong>and</strong><br />

economic factors with<strong>in</strong> the rural settlements. ThiS<br />

Will <strong>in</strong> essence give a deeper Insight of the ne~us<br />

between stratification <strong>and</strong> education.<br />
