Section 2 - Site Features follows Thai Van Trung (1978). Based on this classification, the following forest types are found in Xuan Lien proposed nature reserve: (a) medium to high montane mixed coniferous and broadleaf evergreen forest; (b) low montane broadleaf evergreen forest; and (c) secondary forest. Forest type (a) broadly equates to sub-montane dry evergreen forest in the classification developed by MacKinnon and MacKinnon (1986) (and refined by MacKinnon in 1996); whilst forest type (b) broadly equates to tropical semi-evergreen rainforest. 9
