The following services are being provided on campus since our first intake of students in September 1999, with many of these services being expanded and developed each year. Access Office: The role of the Access Officer is to co-ordinate programmes and activities to promote access to third level education to groups that have traditionally been underrepresented within the third level sector. The Access Officer also co-ordinates a range of supports for students which particularly seeks to address the area of student retention. Close links with local schools and communities have been established, and an active Schools Programme aims to change perceptions and attitudes to education and promote good career guidance. Accommodation Advice: Regular transport services and proximity to major roads make it feasible for many students to commute daily to ITB. ITB is not in a position to offer residential accommodation to students. A list of local property owners who offer accommodation to students, together with guidelines to be considered before accepting the accommodation, is available to students on request from Student Services Staff or on the intranet. Careers Office: The Careers Office at ITB is available to all full time and part time students and past graduates. The service provides students with information and offers advice to assist them in their search for future careers.Information about careers, undergraduate and postgraduate studies, summer jobs, grants and scholarships are available to students on the Intranet Careers page, this information is frequently updated. In addition to this students receive regular emails and ‘hot off the press’ job information in the Careers Newsletter. The Careers Office also provides C.V. preparation and interview skills workshops to assist students in preparing for full time employment. Chaplaincy: The Chaplain to ITB is on campus every day during term and is available to both students and staff at any time. He offers spiritual support to students and staff of all denominations and will refer to Ministers of other denominations if so wished. Counselling Service: A professional, confidential and free counselling service is available to all students, and provides vital support. From time to time, students may experience personal difficulties, such as difficulties with study or examinations, lack of confidence and self-esteem, relationship problems, family difficulties, anxiety or depression. Medical & Health Service: Health services are provided free of charge to all full-time registered students at ITB. The medical and health centre is staffed by doctors, a nurse, chaplain and counsellor. Advice and support is offered to students throughout the year. Mentoring Programme: A student Mentoring Programme is run by the Access Office. The aim of the programme is to help new students to successfully adapt to the academic and social demand of ITB and gain confidence in a third level environment. This valuable programme allows existing students and staff to use their experience and knowledge to help new students make the transition to third level education. Sports Facilities: ITB has its own playing pitches and sports facilities. The Sports Officer works closely with students to determine particular interests and strengths. We are developing a comprehensive sporting programme for students which will include participation in appropriate higher education and inter-institutional competitions and leagues. ITB’s Sports Officer organises and promotes a range of sporting activities, and coordinates the running of sporting events both within ITB and with other Institutes and Colleges. State-of-theart sporting facilities are provided on campus and so sport and involvement in sporting activities continues to develop as an important aspect of college life.
