A study of the gross and microscopic<br />

anatomy, physiology, embryology, and<br />

ORAL ANATOMY, HISTOLOGY, AND<br />

EMBRYOLOGY (2-4 CR.)<br />

A study of the morphology, structure, and<br />

function of deciduous and permanent<br />

teeth and surrounding tissues; includes<br />

with reinforcing laboratory procedures<br />

need, for preventative dentistry.<br />

Emphasis is on concepts and skills of<br />

self-motivation, knowledge of dental<br />

diseases and abnormalities, application<br />

of the principles of fluoridation, nutrition,<br />

patient motivation, home care, and other<br />

FUNDAMENTALS OF DENTAL HYGIENE (3-6 CR.)<br />

An introduction to the concepts of the dental<br />

hygiene profession, including the basic<br />

didactic and laboratory/clinic practice for<br />

the performance of dental hygiene services. I<br />

CLINICAL PRACTICE 1 (3-5 CR.)<br />

hygiene services in the clinical setting.<br />

Included is didactic instruction, and<br />

clinical application, of dental hygiene<br />

An overview of the specialties of dentistry<br />

with emphasis on information the<br />

hygienist needs in patient education. I<br />

LOCAL ANESTHESIA AND PAIN CONTROL<br />

(1-2 CR.)<br />

This course addresses pain and anxiety<br />

management for dental patients. The<br />

indications, contraindications and<br />

pharmacology of topical anesthesia,<br />

local anesthesia and nitrous oxide and<br />

onygen sedation used in dentistry will be<br />

discussed. Local anesthesia techniques<br />

of common infiltration injections and<br />

mandibular block injections will be taught<br />

to proficiency.<br />
