it was in 1959,
when divorce
was a terrible
thing, especially
for a good little
Quaker girl’
In December 2006, at the age of 77, she was
baptised by her daughter Penny and her
grandson Aidan, with her son-in-law Rodger
conducting the service.
And she’s never looked back since! After her
baptism, she became a covenant member of
the Jesus Fellowship. She also started to attend
a meeting for over-55 members of the church
in Northampton; it’s now her responsibility to
find people to speak at these meetings.
“One thing that really blessed me was a
prayer group called ‘Zest’,” explains Pam, “It’s
this group of older women in the church who
meet together regularly and pray for different
things. When they knew I wanted to move to
Northampton, they prayed I would find the
right house. And I did!”
Pam is now a member of Zest and has
formed relationships with members of the
group that have held her through difficult
times, such as her third husband’s death.
Definitely not one to settle down, Pam’s
house is “an open home” and she often has
young people coming over for meals, or people
that need a place to stay.
“I’ve been through a lot, but I’m so happy
now. I think it’s lovely that at my age I’m not
lonely at all; I have so many friends and I’m so
busy,” smiles Pam, “Life is wonderful!” JL
