WE HAVE the greatest life transforming
message available on earth: Jesus saves,
He heals, He baptises with the Holy Spirit and
He’s coming back again. He has commissioned
us confidently to share this amazing news with
our friends, our families, our colleagues and even
the people we meet on the bus or on the street
(like the young woman on the cover, giving out
Jesus Army Streetpaper to passers-by).
Many people are lonely. Young people
are more likely to experience loneliness,
perhaps because they spend more time on
virtual relationships than on face-to-face
ones. Mother Teresa said “loneliness is the
leprosy of modern society”. The amount of
time people in the UK spend in one another’s
homes has fallen by 45 per cent in 30 years;
a third of people have never spoken to their
next door neighbour; and a third of us live
alone. So, let’s be confident in making new
friends and share the good news that can help
people out of their loneliness.
Many people lack purpose in this self
sufficient, consumer-based, technological
society. Each month more than half a million
people type into Google “Does life have
meaning?” Human beings are meaning-seekers.
We need some reason to get up in the morning.
Without God’s life human beings are empty.
God invites us into His life, His story and His
activities. He transforms the mundane into
meaningful mission. Let’s call people to leave
their own failed story and join God’s exciting
adventure story.
Many people lack value and consider
themselves insignificant. As we value people
and introduce them to the living God they will
realize they are unique and precious.
So, let’s use these summer months to
confidently reach out to people of all ages, all
backgrounds, all races, and show that Jesus
and the friendship of His people can heal
loneliness, help people find purpose to their
empty lives and see themselves as precious
and of great value.
