General Summary:<br />

Historic Liberty, Inc seeks a <strong>Community</strong> <strong>Outreach</strong> <strong>Intern</strong> to assist our organization in<br />

communicating to and assessing needs from residents in pre-1945 neighborhoods in<br />

Liberty, Missouri.<br />

This internship will give the intern valuable and practical experience in outreach to the<br />

community – specifically the older neighborhoods of Liberty. The intern will provide<br />

leadership to the HLI Board of Directors in planning, implementing and assessing a<br />

thorough outreach to these neighborhoods.<br />

Key Responsibilities:<br />

Work with the Historic Liberty Board to generate a plan for community outreach to<br />

the pre-1945 neighborhoods of Liberty:<br />

o What are items we need to provide to residents?<br />

o<br />

o<br />

Develop/ procure those items<br />

What is information needed to acquire from residents to be more useful as an<br />

organization in our mission to provide information and assistance to<br />

property owners in historic neighborhoods of Liberty.<br />

Mobilize and train volunteers to complete an effective community survey:<br />

o HLI board members<br />

o Facebook group members<br />

o WJC students<br />

Process information for strategic follow-up:<br />

o acquired email addresses entered into database for e-newsletter<br />

o<br />

assess comments and process responses that identify areas of opportunity<br />

for Historic Liberty<br />

Initial Impact:<br />

Significantly enhance the community awareness of Historic Liberty and our<br />

resources.<br />

Identify grassroots perceptions and opportunities for future strategic actions by<br />

HLI.<br />

Identify potential neighborhood leaders for future development.


Sustainable Outcome:<br />

Historic Liberty can become more effective in assisting property owners and<br />

neighborhoods in Liberty as awareness of HLI is heightened and identified needs become<br />

better known. Historic Liberty can become a model for similar grassroots organizations in<br />

other cities.<br />

Training and Support:<br />

Orientation and planning with HLI board members<br />

Board member as a specific contact throughout the internship<br />

Phone and email follow ups to answer any questions or concerns<br />

Extra meetings can be scheduled if necessary<br />

Qualifications:<br />

Able to work without direct supervision<br />

Results oriented<br />

Flexible in dealing with the interests and needs of others<br />

Time Commitment:<br />

The plan will require several hours from the intern that will be approved by the<br />

Board. The actual neighborhood outreach will be implemented in late April or early<br />

May. There will be follow-up to process information when the neighborhood outreach<br />

survey has been completed. The estimated time commitment is approximately 40 hours<br />

inclusive. The HLI board meets on the 3rd Thursday at 5:00 p.m. for one hour. (If this<br />

meeting time does not work we can work with your schedule to set up something.)<br />
