There are some family plots which are surrounded by low concrete walls which have one<br />
headstone identifying multiple burials. Several sites were surrounded by ornamental metal<br />
fences which now lie on the ground, In one case an elaborate wooden picket fence<br />
surrounded the burial plot however the only remains are a few <strong>of</strong> the picket pieces.<br />
Early cemetery <strong>and</strong> burial records were destroyed in the 1937 fire,<br />
to re-establish the cemetery documentation since the fire.<br />
There has been no attempt<br />
The property upon which the cemeteries are located represent a variety <strong>of</strong> owners. The<br />
Catholic, Native, Asian, <strong>and</strong> Russian Orthodox Cemeteries are owned by the Catholic Church.<br />
The Douglas Indian <strong>and</strong> Masons Cemeteries are owned by the Ross Estate. The Eagles <strong>and</strong><br />
<strong>City</strong> Cemeteries are owned by Ripley/RountreelIsaak Trustees. The Servian cemetery is<br />
owned by a private individual. And the Odd Fellows Cemetery is owned by an out-<strong>of</strong>-state<br />
development corporation which is in the process <strong>of</strong> transferring this holding to the <strong>City</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />
<strong>Borough</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Juneau</strong>.<br />
The Eagles Club maintains the Eagles Cemetery <strong>and</strong>the Douglas Lions Club has recently<br />
taken on the task <strong>of</strong> caring for the <strong>City</strong> Cemetery. The Douglas Indian Association performs<br />
periodic maintenance on the grounds <strong>of</strong> the Douglas Indian Cemetery. Maintenance at the<br />
other cemeteries is inconsistent, <strong>of</strong>ten provided by an individual or family whose relatives are<br />
buried there.<br />
