First-Year programs
Make the most of your first year
Find your place in the K-State family. K-State First programs allow you to
connect with other students and faculty and to learn with them in the
classroom and beyond.
First-Year Seminars
Work closely with professors and students in a First-Year Seminar course,
all of which have 22 students or fewer. You can choose from courses in
English, leadership studies, geology, political science, women’s studies,
entomology and much more.
CAT Communities
Join a learning community made up of 22 students with similar interests in
the Connecting Across Topics, or CAT, Community program. You’ll enroll in
two regular courses taken together and another one-hour opportunity to
discover course connections. There are even study abroad and residential
CAT communities for you to explore!
K-State Book Network
Read a book with the rest of the campus in the K-State Book Network,
or KSBN, and join fellow students in a series of book-related events and
discussions. Students receive a copy of the book at June orientation and
enrollment.
Guide to Personal Success
The Guide to Personal Success, or GPS, provides first-year students with
a campus mentor as a point of contact who can assist students with
personal and professional needs throughout the freshman year. GPS
guides are K-State staff, faculty, graduate students and recent alumni who
volunteer their time to invest in the lives of first-year students like you.
