The use of multifunctional antimicrobial additives is a well-known strategy for alternative preservation in the cosmetic industry. 

Developed and established by the company Dr. Straetmans, the antimicrobial activity of these multifunctional ingredients

in terms of performance and skin safety and brought them to market. Our trade name dermosoft ® became a synonym for 

pioneering inventions that are now well accepted market standards. 

Today dermosoft ® products are used to support, boost or replace traditional preservatives. To prove the efficacy of these 

systems, microbiological service is part of our customer support. Thousands of challenge test run with dermosoft ® products 

form the basis of the expertise Dr. Straetmans is offering to guide you as a cosmetic formulator in making the best 

choices for successful preservation. 

But dermosoft ® products can do more. Some of them show selected activity against specific microorganisms which can 

cause skin disorders. This makes them valuable alternatives to control e.g. dandruff, athlete’s foot, acne or body odour. 

Striving for innovation and the search for new and improved ingredients is our permanent goal. Incorporating them into modern

At Dr. Straetmans there are experienced and passionate hair care experts dedicating time to what our customers need. We 

develop new, modern hair care formulations every year. We invest a lot of time into these formulations and testing to show 

the conditioner performance, foam production and quality, combability of the hair, reduction of build up effect and other 

product features important to create cutting edge hair care products. 

We share these formulations and our knowledge with our customers, but we do even more. In many cases our customers 

trust us with the entire development or co-development of their products. Our capabilities range from the full development of 

complete hair care series to specific performance testing (e.g. combing force measurements) for claim substantiation. 

In our work we use the ingredients that best fit the concept. We can choose between our range of Amyomer products or 

symbio ® quat, both of which are based on sustainable vegetable starch as a starting material. To gain the best performance 

of these natural polymers we use chemical modifications that will yield the profile for the different hair types. In many cases 

we combine our ingredients with those of other suppliers when we feel that the concept is improved. 

When fully natural or certified products are to be developed, we have natural ingredients like dermofeel ® P-30 at hand 

which is one of the best choices for certified natural hair care. 

But more than only offering our ingredients, we can teach our customers how to develop and evaluate their products, what 

combinations of actives to use to create a unique and successful product. For this we offer trainings and workshops in our 

hair care lab, where our experts can discuss with you how to move in this difficult market segment.

and Sustainability 

Natural cosmetics in the last decade has left the niche segment and gained a significant 

volume and market share. As a consequence, sustainable sourcing of re-growing 

materials has become a major challenge since the increasing demand for suitable 

products has to meet the public demand of protecting biodiversity and native forests. 

Being involved in the development of alternative and natural ingredients already long 

before this became a global trend, Dr. Straetmans for many years devoted activities to 

develop solutions which meet the future requirements for responsible and sustainable 

sourcing of valuable cosmetic ingredients. Two examples: 

With our dermorganics ® line we offer widely used raw materials from certified 

organic sources. Our intention? We want to respect the natural environment 

and want to support agriculture and farming without pesticides and fertilizers. 

As the first and only supplier we have introduced a palm-oil free quality of the 

widely used emulsifier Glyceryl Stearate Citrate that exclusively uses locally 

harvested crops for the production of the ingredient’s components. By this way 

we avoid the problematic sourcing of further palm oil and reduce transportation 

of raw materials resulting in a smaller carbon footprint for this ingredient. 

Our contribution for more sustainable cosmetic products. 

But we are doing more! We develop alternative plant derived processes to replace raw 

materials from fossil origin. Where possible we are sourcing GMO-free plant materials 

thereby respecting natural biodiversity. And last but not least we are continuously looking 

for more effective and environmentally safe products to preserve resources and 

to protect our environment for future generations. 

As a major supplier for the basic cosmetic ingredients we will continue to develop innovative 

raw materials with the balance between high performance and sustainability.
