with this huge market. Therefore, translation and interpretation between Chinese and
English has certainly been one of the highest potential academic hotspot in recent years.
Those who can use both English and Chinese language as a means of communication
have tremendous power and are absolutely the elites in this modern business world.
Though the internet does shorten the distance among nations, barriers in
communication still exist between people, and are the main obstacle of information
exchange, hence the biggest problem of people’s interaction. It is not easy to share
cross-cultural information without efficient translation, and it is also challenging to
learn a language to achieve this. This research is aimed at the core problems of
translation through a survey among the applied English students who have learned
English for six or more years. Hopefully, the results of this survey will become a
reference material for all teachers who are teaching translation, as well as an aid to all
students who are learning translation.
The main theme of this survey is an attempt to design a way to understand the
different approaches to learning and teaching translation. We will investigate the
following four categories:
1. What kind of problems have students identified through their learning
experiences?
2. What are some practical ways to gain knowledge of translation?
3. How can teaching methods be improved?
4. Would the students like to have a translation job when they graduate from the
university in the near future, why and why not?
