OPAVA REGION
PRESERVED HISTORICAL
VILLAGES
It is the only village in the Opava Region
with preserved buildings, which are unique
evidence of the original folk architecture.
The first mention of the village
dates back to 1377. There are two lines of
gable-fronted houses with even development.
These are one-storey, mostly brick
dwellings as well as farm buildings from
the end of the 18th and the beginning
of the 19th centuries. Local farmsteads
can be classified as the East-Sudetic type.
From the viewpoint of functional use, the
cattle shed type is typical for all houses.
Vertical articulation of an attic, where the
loft was situated on the lower floor and
the upper level served as the granary, is
characteristic of these buildings.
JESENÍKY MOUNTAINS
Originally a miner´s village with hammer
mill and lime production is mentioned
as a town for the first time in
1339. However, during the 14th century
it was degraded to a village again.
This picturesque village at the foothills
of the Jeseníky Mountains is, in addition
to its history, of interest also because
of the fact that timbered ground-
-floor houses, built during the 19th
century, have been preserved up to the
present. These buildings are the part
of a unique conserved complex of folk
architecture in the Bruntál Region. The
parish Church of St. Andrew with the
bounding wall and gate has also been
placed in the register of protected historical
buildings. The church is a landmark
of the village.
