Feature Films During the year, 15 British feature films financed
wholly or partly by the Group have been released: all ofthem
have been sold to overseas markets as well as the UK. Eleven
more films will be shown during 1971 72.
Ofthe films so far released, outstanding success has been
achieved by Tales ofBeatrix Potter, The Railway Children,
Up Pompeii, Get Carter, Villain and Percy. More recently,
On the Buses has become one ofthe most successful British
films for many years. And The Go-Between, which v/on the
Cannes Film Festival's Grand Prix, has opened with
outstanding success in France, the United States and Britain.
Elstree Studios Once again this year, the lower level of
film production in the UK led to the under-use ofElstree Studios.
Nevertheless, four feature films and two TV series were made
there, in addition to our own product. The new financial year
began with an encouraging increase in volume, with all nine
stages ofthe studios occupieil.
During the year, we developed our production activity by
forrning a new, jointly operated company with Metro-Goldwyn-
Mayer. Anglo-EMI has a 50o/o interest in the company,
EMI-MGM Film Productions Limited, which will produce a
jointly-financed programme offeature films: the first is Ken
Russell's The Boyfriend, to be released early in 1972. In
addition, EMI has entered into co'operative arrangements with
a number ofother maj or British and US companies.
