5. When exhibits are handed to the jury:<br />

6. When a witness is requested to " mark an X" on a map, or some similar<br />

request:<br />

7. When a witness is asked to step down from the witness stand to illustrate<br />

some point on a map or chart or at the blackboard or some other similar<br />

purpose:<br />

(The witness left the stand and went to the blackboard.)<br />

8. After the witness completes the matter at the blackboard:<br />

(The witness returned to the stand.)<br />

9. When visuals are exhibited in the course of the trial and equipment is<br />

used:<br />

courtroom and Exhibit No. _ was projected <strong>for</strong> the court and jury.)<br />

10. When a witness completes testimony, a statement similar to the following<br />

can be used:<br />

11. When there is no jury and the <strong>Court</strong> announces that a discussion is off<br />

the record:<br />

(An off-the-record discussion was had by <strong>Court</strong> and counsel.)<br />

12. Sometimes, an off-the-record discussion is at the bench:<br />

(An off-the record discussion was had by <strong>Court</strong> and counsel at the bench.)<br />

13. When there is a jury, the <strong>Court</strong> may sometimes call counsel to the bench,<br />

or counsel may request permission to approach the bench, and the <strong>Court</strong> may<br />

conduct a discussion at the bench without calling the reporter to the bench:<br />

(An off-the-record discussion was had by court and counsel at the bench out of the<br />

hearing of the jury and the reporter.)<br />

14. When there is a discussion at the bench and a record is required:<br />
