Queensland Corvette Club Inc FND to Sunnybank Hotel. Page 10. January 2013
Friday Night at the Sunnybank Hotel
Myself and Pauline hosted this dinner and arrived at the Hyperdome nice and early. Things
started off slow with only three other cars up till 6:25pm when things started to liven up. By
the time we left we had six Corvettes’ and four ring-ins, in the shape of three Holdens and
one Audi, which arrived last (must have been the driver).
I decided to take things easy heading along the freeway, but by the time we had reached our
destination I had earned the nickname of Miss Daisy, which I will have to change on the next
cruise.
Our venue was as usual very busy and a couple of our members (Geoff and Carolee) took the
opportunity to get in early and place their order with the rest of us content to sit and chat.
Little did we know that the rest of the hotel had decided to line up to order which left the
rest of us a good 20 minutes behind Geoff and Carolee, who were protecting their chips with
their knives, boy were we hungry by the time our meals arrived.
Everyone had a great time with Phil deciding to entertain some of us with an impromptu card
trick, don’t give up your day (night) job, Phil. Jack Turner was very unimpressed with the
goings on and continued playing with his GameBoy. Mr Turner decided to use the hotel
coasters as Frisbees and by the time we left you couldn’t see the carpet.
As we were all having a great time we didn’t notice the time passing and with a few hints
from the waitresses we left around 9:45. We then decided to head away from little Asia and
go to Maccas at little Mecca. On the way Mr Whittle decided to plant his foot as he was
passing me and like an idiot I took that to be a challenge and followed suit. Now I know why
Pauline is called Squirrel, not for collecting nuts but for crushing them, I got the hint and
quickly lifted my foot from the go faster pedal. When we arrived at the little Mecca, Maccas
we were pleasantly surprised to see our old mate Phil Vance who is now a “Nova” driver.
Well after we had all had our coffee’s and Mr & Mrs Roberts who decided they were still
hungry and had more to eat, we called it a night and left noisily, around 11:00pm.
Roll on our next Dinner
Ninety eight percent of the adults in this country are
decent, hardworking, honest Australians. It's the
other lousy two percent that get all the publicity. But
then, we elected them.
