Painting: Oils, Acrylics & Water Media OILS & ACRYLICS Beginning BEGINNING OIL PAINTING: THE-NOT-SO-STILL LIFE— LIVE IT and PAINT IT! NEW! Learn to set up still-lifes at home and in class that have personal meaning and provide purpose and inspiration. Learn oil painting techniques and material handling, basic composition, color theory, subject selection and aesthetics. No prior art training is required. All levels are welcome. One of your “teachers” for this class will be the revolutionary artist Pablo Picasso, who literally changed the way we see the world! Working from a Picasso painting, develop your own idea using his vision as your guide. There will also be class time for you to work on another painting of whatever subject you choose. Each class begins with a structured lesson and demonstration followed by directed studio work. Remember to wear your painting clothes! Bring 11" x 14" or larger stretched canvas to first class. This term, we will focus on the less-is-more approach—and techniques for building complex ideas from simple shapes. Absolutely no prior art training is required. All Skill Levels WET AND DRY: THE MAGIC OF PASTELS (DRY and OIL) Jill Kiefer, PhD (JK-7) Wednesdays, 1/12–3/16, 9am–noon $195, Members $165 This thoroughly enjoyable class will familiarize students with both dry pastel medium and oil pastels and sticks. Work in one or both forms. Through demonstration and experimentation, discover the versatility of dry pastels, creating works ranging from quick sketches to pastels that resemble oil paintings and you’ll learn how to paint with oil sticks and pastels, too. Students will complete several projects. Each project will incorporate the principles, materials, techniques, and skills participants have explored thus far, in dry and oil pastels. Each session will begin with a structured lesson and demonstration in both media forms—followed by directed studio time. Either bring your own supplies OR pay a $25 supply fee to the instructor, to cover all supplies. No prior art training is required; however, advanced pastel artists are also welcome. Capture the moods of sky, land and sea through the myriad possibilities of light. Use your own field studies and photographs. Emphasis on working from large shapes to small, and interpretation of relative warm and cool color values.
