Maternity Pay
At least one year’s continuous local government
service as a teacher with one or more local
authorities at the beginning of the 11th week before
the expected week of childbirth.
Undertakes to return to your job for the required
period following the end of maternity leave.
4 weeks full pay
2 weeks @ 9/10th pay
12 weeks @ half pay
21 weeks SMP

A minimum of 26 weeks continuous service with
HCC by the end of the 15th week before the
expected week of childbirth and earn more than the
lower earnings limit for the payment of NI
contributions and still be pregnant at the 11th week
before the EWC or have already given birth.

Weeks 1-6 calculated @ 9/10th normal weekly
earnings.
Weeks 7-39 standard rate payment as prescribed by
the government or the earnings related rate;
whichever is the lower.
Further Pay
Information
These two payments of OMP and SMP will be
aggregated together so that at no time will you
receive in excess of full pay.
You must return to work for 13 weeks or the fulltime
equivalent (fte) or will be required to repay the
full amount of 12 weeks of half pay received under the
Occupational Maternity Pay scheme.
There are two rates of SMP, the standard rate that
changes every April and the higher rate calculated on
9/10ths of your average earnings. Employees who do not
comply with the service requirements for SMP outlined
will need to contact their local DWP to establish whether
they qualify for a maternity allowance.
