MEDIA RELEASE
Wednesday 8 May 2013
Waratah-Wynyard Council is expected to start works later this month on the Old
Bass Highway to rectify drainage of properties at Doctors Rocks.
Executive Manager of Engineering Services Daniel Summers said Council had been
working with a number of stakeholders to ensure the works did not affect penguin
colonies in the area.
“Council is currently in discussions with the Parks and Wildlife Service, Crown Land,
TasRail and Cradle Coast Natural Resource Management to ensure these works do
not disturb penguin habitats in the area,” Mr Summers said.
“Council is also working with Wynyard Landcare, as part of our recently signed
Memorandum of Understanding, to ensure appropriate management of the site
during the works and rehabilitation following completion.”
Mr Summers said the works would result in some traffic delays on the section of the
Old Bass Highway just before the turnoff to the Bass Highway.
“While a section of railway will be removed to enable the works, it is expected that
traffic in this area will be reduced to a single lane for most of the time,” Mr Summers
said.
“I would therefore ask for people to drive with caution in this area and to take
alternative routes in the meantime if possible.”

Mr Summers said Council expected to start works at the end of this month or early
June.
Residents in the area requiring further information about the works are able to
