Co-PTA Presidium

Erev Shabbos Parashas Ki Seitzei 5772
Dear Parents,
The excitement of watching our Talmidim and Talmidos returning to school, their friends and to learning is
to experience great joy and hope. The potential of what each individual and the totality of our 400 elementary
and early childhood students can accomplish this year is limitless. No matter what stresses and difficulties
you endure to enable your children to receive a quality Torah and secular education, and these days
all parents of Yeshiva students are heroes, it is all worth it when you realize your children are being
plugged into eternity and into a world of higher values and greater humanity.
Two events shook the Jewish world this summer, one joyous and one sad and foreboding, but they both
point to the priceless treasure that our children are being given the opportunity to tap into. The Siyum Ha-
Shas of the Daf HaYomi, which was celebrated by tens of thousands around the globe, reaffirmed the primacy
of Torah study and scholarship in the life of every Jew. It focused on the mind-boggling accomplishment
possible through a daily dedication to Limud HaTorah that is attainable by anyone with the inner conviction
and deep motivation to strive for a goal.
The primacy of Torah was highlighted as well in the passing of the undisputed Gadol HaDor, HaGaon HaRav
Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, zt’l. Rav Elyashiv lived his life in a manner that others can only aspire to – complete
dedication to Torah learning. His singular focus on learning to an (pardon the expression) Olympic level
elevated him to a point where his erudition and scholarship were so way beyond everyone else that no one
questioned his word, his truth, his Torah knowledge. By achieving the almost superhuman level that he did,
any discussion of him and his ways evoke awe and respect for Torah learning to a degree not heretofore
understood or properly appreciated.
Different aspects of greatness in Torah, is what we are grooming our children to be part of, to grow from
and ultimately contribute to. This should fill our hearts with joy and motivation to help them find excitement
and fulfillment in learning, and to join with the Rebbeim, Moros and teachers to allow their potential to
blossom forth. This is not merely a sentimental approach. This appreciation for the beauty of Torah learning
and Torah living is fundamental to our children’s growth, because success in Torah will come when it is
truly sweet for parents and children alike.
Best wishes for a Shabbos of sweetness,
Rabbi Kalman Baumann
Principal
