The Athletic Union (AU) is the central body that organises and
supports the Union Society’s sports clubs. However, sport at
Newcastle is not just about representing teams; it is very much
about participation. This is why we provide different levels of sport
throughout the University for everyone from outstanding athletes
who compete at national or international standard, to those who
are simply interested in getting fit or looking to have a bit of fun.
Most clubs within the AU meet up socially as well as providing an
opportunity to play. If mainstream sports are not for you there is
still a wide range of alternative sports clubs available to you as a
Newcastle student. If these still aren’t quite what you had in mind,
the AU will provide you with the support and facilities needed to
set up and run your own sports club.
Full details of all University sports clubs and societies can be found
