<strong>COTC</strong> <strong>Recognizes</strong> <strong>Associ<strong>at</strong>e</strong> <strong>Degree</strong> <strong>Gradu<strong>at</strong>es</strong> <strong>at</strong> <strong>Ceremony</strong><br />

December 19, 2011—Newark, OH—Central Ohio Technical College (<strong>COTC</strong>) recently held<br />

nursing recognition ceremonies to honor <strong>Associ<strong>at</strong>e</strong> of Applied Science in Nursing<br />

Technology gradu<strong>at</strong>es from the Coshocton and Newark campuses.<br />

The following gradu<strong>at</strong>es were honored <strong>at</strong> the ceremony held on Thursday, December 8<br />

<strong>at</strong> the college’s Newark Campus:<br />

The gradu<strong>at</strong>es were recognized for their achievements and received <strong>COTC</strong> nursing<br />

pins. The pinning ceremony is a long-held tradition marking the passage of student to<br />

the ranks of professional nursing. The ceremony origin<strong>at</strong>ed in the 1860s <strong>at</strong> London’s<br />

Nightingale School of Nursing. Florence Nightingale, who had recently been awarded<br />

the Red Cross of St. George for her selfless service to the injured and dying in the<br />

Crimean War, chose to extend this honor to outstanding nursing gradu<strong>at</strong>es by<br />

presenting each of them with a medal for excellence.<br />

Central Ohio Technical College is a two-year college dedic<strong>at</strong>ed to providing high quality,<br />

In this 40 th anniversary year, <strong>COTC</strong> celebr<strong>at</strong>es its ongoing<br />

commitment to fostering collabor<strong>at</strong>ion between academic units,<br />

community partners, and local businesses, to forging new p<strong>at</strong>hways for<br />

student success and achievement, and to broadening access to higher<br />

educ<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />
