My health views on … Forked River resident Dawn McIntyre, R.N., is a self-described couch potato who has worked hard to find ways to enjoy exercising. Here’s how the 52-year-old does it. … making every move count. I used to see exercise as black or white: Either I went to the gym or I didn’t. Now I look for ways to be active throughout the day whether or not I work out. I take the stairs instead of the elevator. I walk my dog or clean the floors. It all adds up! … sticking with it. I became friends with some of the regulars at the gym. One is an aerobics instructor who asked me to come to her class. The first couple of times I went, I’d go left while the rest of the class went right. But I kept moving! Now I look forward to seeing my friends when I go to the gym, which helps motivate me to go. … de-stressing. At least once a week I take a yoga/Pilates class. I’ve learned so much about connecting with my breath, and it has helped me to be so much calmer. Whenever I feel stressed, I just take some deep breaths and release it. Dawn McIntyre enjoys some outdoor exercise on the boardwalk in Spring Lake. She looks for ways to be active throughout the day, whether or not she fits in a workout.
