Rohrbaugh 380s
Pre-Review Comments:
Now this is one neat little gun. And when I say little... I
mean REALLY little. This gun is so tiny that when I cover
it up with my palm, well the gun disappears!
The other thing that jumped out at me as I picked the
Rohrbaugh 380s up was the amazing level of craftmaship.
The manufacturing tolerances of this gun are breathtaking.
Heck, as I was inspecting all the contents of the box, I
noticed that the traditional envelope that contains the
single spent “test shell” was signed by a guy named Eric C.
Rohrbaugh. Really? The guy whose last name is Rohrbaugh
actually signed the test fire envelope? Well, that is super
cool. This is going to be a fun gun to test!
Man, I don’t know where to start. This gun is simply
amazing. It looks as if this gun was designed and engineered
by a watchmaker. There is not a single sharp edge on this
gun. The attention to detail is really A+ stuff.
The frame is CNC machined alumunim with a nice beadblasted
and black annodized finish. The slide is CNC stainless
steel with every single edge chamfered and polished. The
grip is made out of a material called G-10. This material
seems to be some sort of machined, fiberglass laminate. The
Slide racking serrations are
very minimalist. Maybe a
bit too much so?
You can get this gun with no sights
or the sights you see here. In
hindsight, I should have bought the
version withouth sights!
Machined into the slide
is a standard “V” sight.
All edges are chamfered
and smooth!
Here’s that funky
magazine catch.
The “s” vesion has a standard “V”
sight machined into the slide.
Buttery-smooth
trigger.
Grip is made of “G-10”. This is
some sort of fiberglass laminate.
It’s really cool!

laminate is very dense and makes for a smoothe yet nonslippery
grip.
The slide to frames fit is really tight. I could detect almost
zero side to side and almost zero fore and aft play. Man, this
gun is really tight!
The trigger is very smooth until the break point. It must
be allowed to go almost all the way back to the initial start
point for the the trigger to reset.
All in all... this gun exhibits MORE than you’d expect
from a gun costing $1,200.
Ergonomics & Shootability:
As I mentioned before, the G-10 material makes for a
very effective and comfortable grip. While the trigger pull
is by no means short, it IS consistent.
Because this gun is so small, you will only be abe to get
two fingers on the front strap. But that comes as no surprise!
The last thing I’ll mention in the ergonomics section is the
magazine release. The Rohrbaugh 380s (and all Rohrbaughs
for that matter) utilizes a spring-loaded lever that hangs off
the rear of the grip. This catch then locks into a sheetmetal
slot on the magazine. It works fine, but it will certainly take
some getting used to. I’d love to see if anyone could extract
the magazine with one hand!
Reliability & Accuracy:
Wow. This was a neat gun to shoot. I didn’t really like the
massive trigger reset distance... but that is something you
could get used to. The trigger was as smoothe as silk and I
kept most of the rounds within a 2.5” circle.
Your gun will come with a
decent case that is worth
holding onto!
Notice there is no instruction
manual. Well, it’s because I
lost the one that came with the
gun! But no worries, you can
download and print a new one
from the Rohrbaugh website.
You get an extra “outer recoil
spring” with your gun.
You’re supposed to replace
this every 200 rounds!
Concealability:
The concealability rating is determined by the formula below. The lower
the number the better! Cfactor = (LxWxTx(loaded weight))/(7*π)
This gun gets a concealability rating of 0.948 which is the
best concealability rating we’ve ever published. This gun
is simply the smallest little gun I’ve ever seen. Yep... it’s
expenseive, but man, in this package you sure get what you
pay for.
Conclusion & Summary:
I love this little gun, but I’m going to get rid of it and get
a Rohrbaugh R9. The 9mm cartridge is a heck of a lot better
than the .380 ACP, and the R9 is the exact same size.
This little sign tells you
that the gun was made in
the U.S.A. -- Yee ha!
Here’s an extra 6 round
magazine.
Things I LIKE:
¨¨I LOVE the small size and weight of this gun. Heck you
could carry 3 or 4 of these things on you!
¨¨The overall quality and craftsmanship is amazing.
Things I DONT Like:
¨¨I still can’t figure out why I got this gun in .380 ACP. I
need to exchange it for the R9 as soon as possible.
¨¨The magazine release will take some getting used to!

Well... I kept MOST of the rounds
within a 2.5” circle from 21 feet.
This gun doesn’t really have
sights so this isn’t too bad!
