Springfield 1911 (Micro Compact)
Pre-Review Comments:
All I can say is, Wow. This is one of the sexiest looking
guns I think I’ve ever seen. It is downright gorgeous! As a
recovering engineer, it never ceases to amaze me that John
Browning designed this gun close to 100 years ago. That is
pretty amazing.
Okay, enough of the emotional 1911 talk. For those of you
that are new to handguns. The fundamental design of this
gun dates back to 1911. Now there are many companies that
manufacture this type of handgun, and I’ve got my hands
on the “micro-compact” version that Springfield Armory
makes. This version of the 1911 is perfect for concealed
carry, which is why I am super excited to put this gun
through its paces! Let’s get to work.
Quality, Fit & Finish:
Well for over $1,200 you’d expect the gun to be perfect...
and it does NOT dissapoint. Everything about this gun says,
“Hello, I was custom-made by hand in Geneseo, IL by a
gunsmith who really cared about what I looked like.” I’m
serious. The grips are beautiful yet highly functional. The
black aluminum frame has a flawless, matte black finish.
The stainless slide has absolutely ZERO play with respect to
Accessory
Rail
The Novak combat sights (with
Trijicon inserts) are awesome!
Ambidextrous
Safety!
Here’s a look down the Novak 3-dot
combat sights. The dots have tiny
little Trijicon tritium vials in them...
so they’ll glow in the dark for
decades!
Novak Trijicon 3-Dot
Combat Sights
Beautiful grips.
Flawless fit
and finish.
What? No grooves or
stippling on the front strap?
Cool skeletonized
hammer.

the frame rails. The barrel is rock solid within the slide and
is impossible to move during full lock-up! The illuminated
Novak, combat sights look and work perfectly on this gun.
Honestly, this gun is a work of art! It’s simply breathtaking.
I DO have one tiny beef with the good people over at
Springfield Armory. The front strap of the grip is as smoothe
as a baby’s butt! What the heck is that all about? Come on
guys... for over $1,200 I’d expect the front strap to have
some nice serrations, stippling or something!
Ergonomics & Shootability:
WARNING: If you are a died-in-the-wool, raving 1911
fan, then you will NOT like what I’m about to say. Here’s
the deal guys. The manual of arms (this is a fancy way
to say, “the way a gun works”) for the 1911 is kind of
complicated. It’s kind of like the difference between driving
a standard transmission (stick-shift) and an automatic. I’m
NOT saying that there is anything wrong with the way a
1911 works, I’m just saying that to be proficient with this
type of gun requires a LOT more practice.
So, if you’re brand new to firearms and concealed carry,
you might want to get a Glock or a revolver. This style of gun
is for the advanced shooter who’s already sent thousands of
rounds downrange and doesn’t have to think about snicking
the safety off or doesn’t worry about carrying in condition
‘one’.
Reliability & Accuracy:
I really enjoy shooting 1911s. They just feel so tight
and precise. This gun did NOT let me down one bit. The
NOVAK sights were easy to get on target and the trigger
broke consistently every time. I give an A+ to this 1911.
Concealability:
The concealability rating is determined by the formula below. The lower
the number the better! Cfactor = (LxWxTx(loaded weight))/(7*π)
This gun gets a concealability rating of 2.955 which is
pretty good. One of the best things about the 1911 design
is that there are 1000’s of holster designs for you to choose
from. And... if you can’t find an “off-the-shelf” holster to
your liking, there are a plethora of custom holster makers
who ALL make hoslters for the 1911.
Conclusion & Summary:
This is one sweet gun. It’s got all the bells and whistles
you’d expect from a custom 1911. It’s well made and
Springfield Armory stands behind their guns like nobody’s
business! If this is your first gun... be SURE you know what
you’re getting into. If you are a 1911 fan then this is the
concealed carry gun for you! Have fun.
Okay, this holster is
absolutely ridiculous.
You better not use
this cheesy thing!
Here’s a free bore
brush you’ll want to
throw away!
This case is actually
pretty nice.
Wow, they included a free
tactical rail flashlight with
my gun! Bonus.
Yep, this mag holster
is ridiculous as well.
Extra six round
magazine... nice!
Things I LIKE:
¨ Fit and finish of this gun are second to none.
¨ Awesome Novak sights.
¨ Accessory rail on frame is nice to have.
¨ Classic 1911 look and it’s cool that John Browning
designed this gun almost 100 years ago.
Things I DONT Like:
¨ The front strap is naked! No serrations or stippling or
anything. Other than that, this gun is perfect.
¨ Well, except for one more thing. For some strange
reason, Springfield Armory includes a ridiculous holster
with the gun. PLEASE do not put your $1,200 gun in a
cheesy, injection molded, plastic holster!

A few wild ones here... but most
of the rounds ended up within a
2.5” circle. (These were shot from
21 feet.)
