Community Connections Page 14 June/July 2013 The Church Mouse By Eric Painter Message from the Church Mouse’s Husband I had the privilege of visiting our son, who is an Anglican priest, and has four churches in Moncton, over Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday. We attended a concert of over 100 children who are taught music in the school system, and my granddaughter at age 9 was second violin. I couldn’t help but notice some of her gestures and mannerisms that reminded me so much of her grandmother. Norma will never be dead as long as Phillippa is alive. I started off by helping at a Children’s party at St. Phillips Church, next door to the rectory on the Saturday before Palm Sunday. Little did I realise that I would be attending four different churches, 11 times in 8 days, plus 3 Bible study groups. Good Friday was a real awakening when I attended an all night vigil at four am, attended St. James Church at 11 am, then a Tennenbrae service at St. Mary’s Church at 8 pm, when the alter is stripped and all the lights are extinguished, then a great bang, symbolizing the tomb being closed, and everybody leaves the church in the dark, not saying a word. What a wonderful experience, and meeting so many wonderful Christians! Doug asked me at one point if I was churched out. Everybody was so kind and somebody had the presence of mind to place my lovely wife’s name into the memorial book, something that is usually reserved for parishioners. On that note, I would like to wish everybody a wonderful and safe summer, and don’t forget your church is still there for you during the hot summer months. God doesn’t take a break. We were blessed in the month of April to have our missionary to the Hispanic people, Jessica Lovera, with us to share what God is doing through the ministry that she and her husband Adrian are fulfilling together. With the observance of Pentecost Sunday, May 19 th , we were once again reminded that the promise of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, always accompanied by speaking with tongues, is offered to all true believers for power to witness, to serve and to live a holy life (Acts 2:1-4) We are a Pentecostal church and we believe in the old-fashioned Holy Ghost power to baptize and to sanctify.
