Message from
The Mayor
Dear fellow citizens,
Spring is upon us and already we
can feel the flood of positive energy that
the season brings at the end of a long
winter. With spring comes spring cleaning,
planting and tending our gardens
and improving our green spaces.
Our environmental efforts
The City of Deux-Montagnes has
undertaken a number of environmental
initiatives in recent years to reduce its
ecological footprint. Of the different
measures adopted, banning the distribution
of plastic bags has without a
doubt been one of the most effective. In
fact, this regulation has succeeded in
Wine and Cheese Fundraiser
By Valerie Sauve
With the goal of building a third house
in the area, Habitat for Humanity
Region of Deux-Montagnes held a wine
and cheese fundraiser on Friday, April
19, with President of Honour Stephane
Patrie, co-owner of Vitro Plus Ziebart
of St. Eustache.
He said, “I accepted with great pleasure
to be the President of Honour for the
wine and cheese party organized by
Habitat for Humanity for the region of
Deux-Montagnes, as it is a fundraiser to
help the owners of the third home, and
because there would be good food and
a warm ambiance there. People came in
large numbers and brought $10,000 for
the organization."
Simon Farsa, well-known local
restaurateur and caterer, was the wine
server (sommelier) assuring that this
diverting over 5 million plastic bags
from landfills since 2009! This represents
approximately 100 tons of plastic
that could have found its way into the
environment without the sustained efforts
of the population of Deux-
Montagnes. I would like to congratulate
all citizens for their remarkable efforts.
Other measures that have been implemented
include the gradual replacement
of municipal vehicles with more
fuel-efficient cars, the installation of
used battery recycling terminals in municipal
buildings, the distribution of
low-cost composters and rainwater barrels,
more energy-efficient municipal
buildings, a ban on idling vehicles for
more than 3 minutes and the distribution
of the news bulletin L'Express in
electronic rather than paper format.
Remember also that with the efforts
of the members of the Corporation des
boisés et des parcs naturels de Deux-
evening was rich in gastronomic
pleasures!
Montagnes, the Boisé-Roger-Lemoine,
property located in Deux-Montagnes, is
now recognized as a nature reserve under
the Natural Heritage Conservation
Act. This is the first ever nature reserve
to be owned by a municipality. This
recognition is valid for a period of 100
years. With this recognition, we ensured
the conservation of the exceptional
natural characteristics of these
woods.
The implementation of such measures
is rewarding and very beneficial. I
encourage you to follow the City's example
and pursue your own efforts for
protection of the environment and respect
our natural surroundings.
On that note, I wish you a happy
