Saying Goodbye to LTM
By Lindsay Parr
It seems not long
ago that I was
walking out of my
front door on a late
August morning. I
wore a black skirt and my hair was
brushed back. I was nervous as I
made the walk up the street to my
bus stop, but I remember being
filled with excitement. I was about
to leave my elementary school years
behind and start a whole new
chapter of my life: High school.
As I walked through the doors of
Lake of Two Mountains High
School, I was shocked by the
number of people who were
bustling from here to there. They
were greeting one another after a
short lived summer, and they were
shouting with joy as they found out
about the classes that they shared
with one another. I, on the other
hand, wanted nothing more than to
safely locate my locker and
homeroom. With my friends by my
side, the first day of high school
wasn’t as horrible as the movies
made it out to be.
During the following years, I
became more comfortable with the
whole concept of high school. In all
honesty, it wasn’t intimidating at
all. As the years began to fly by, the
first day of school wasn’t all about
finding the way to my locker. I soon
came to the realization that it was
impossible to get lost within the
walls of LTM.
From the very beginning, I loved
high school and wanted to do
everything that I could to get
involved. I didn’t want to miss out
on anything! I’ve participated in
everything from the girls’ soccer
team to the drama productions. In
secondary three, I even joined
leadership and student council. My
student council career debuted
when I was appointed treasurer.
Two years later, I was voted in as
the president. This has allowed me
to plan and volunteer in the various
activities that take place around the
school, such as: Color Clash, Spirit
Week, and Cultural Awareness
Week. On the other hand, I have
also attended the Montreal Regional
Science Fair for two consecutive
years, and participated in LTM’s
Free the Children Club. This year, I
was even presented with the
opportunity to help out with the
graduation committee and the
yearbook.
High school will
only be a good
experience if you
make it one.
Getting involved
with my school’s
community has
definitely helped
to improve my
high school
years. In all
honesty, I’m really going to miss
LTM. The teachers are dedicated to
the student’s education, and they
are always willing to support
students in and outside of the
classroom. Students are able to
establish great relationships with
their teachers, due to the relatively
small class sizes. All in all, the
teachers are very committed to the
education of the students. There is
always something happening at
LTM, and the various activities and
sports definitely help contribute to
the memories. The LTM community
is friendly and welcoming, and the
size of the school allows students to
really get to know one another.
Next year, I’ll be attending
Champlain Saint-Lambert in
International Baccalaureate of
Science. This program allows me to
take courses such as Chemistry,
Physics and Calculus, as well as
Philosophy and Literature. In
addition to taking some really cool
courses, the IB curriculum obliges
students to get involved with their
school’s community. I’ll also have to
write a mini thesis upon graduation,
and work on a personal project.
There’s a busy two years ahead of
me, but I feel well prepared to take
on this chapter of my life!
During my five years at LTM,
I’ve learned to fall in love with the
sciences, but I also discovered my
passion for reading and writing. I
don’t know where IB Sciences will
bring me, but I’m eager to find out.
The thought of Cégep is
intimidating, but I thought the same
thing about high school not five
years ago
