This orchestra and chamber<br />

Soon after this experience,<br />
she auditioned for the<br />
<strong>Mar</strong>lboro <strong>Music</strong> Festival and<br />
has been accepted for<br />
summer <strong>2005</strong>. One <strong>of</strong> the<br />
world’s most prestigious<br />
chamber music festivals,<br />
<strong>Mar</strong>lboro is directed by<br />
Mitsuko Uchida and<br />
Richard Goode.<br />

Amanda Smith, violin<br />

the first round <strong>of</strong> the National<br />
Association <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong><br />

Southern gave a<br />
master class<br />
on art song and operatic<br />
repertoire at Miami Dade<br />
College in Miami, Florida.<br />
He also directed “The <strong>Mar</strong>riage<br />
<strong>of</strong> Figaro” at Baldwin-<br />
Wallace College, where he<br />
serves on the voice faculty.<br />
Visconti Honored By<br />
Kronos Quartet<br />
Daniel Visconti, a Master <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong><br />
degree student <strong>of</strong> <strong>Mar</strong>garet Brouwer<br />
and Zhou Long who received his<br />
Bachelor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong> degree in 2004, has<br />
been selected for a commission <strong>of</strong> a<br />
new work by the Kronos Quartet’s<br />
Under 30 Project.<br />
Visconti More than 300 composers from 35<br />
countries applied for this honor, a<br />
collaboration <strong>of</strong> the Kronos Quartet, the Hopkins Center at<br />
Dartmouth College, and the American <strong>Music</strong> Center. Mr.<br />
Visconti will write a new work that will receive its world<br />
premiere at the Hopkins Center on January 14, 2006. Additionally,<br />
he will be in residence with Kronos at the Hopkins<br />
Center in January 2006.<br />
Dan Visconti came to music at a relatively late age, beginning<br />
the violin at age 14 and beginning to compose three<br />
years later. He currently teaches composition, theory, and<br />
popular songwriting through the Conservatory and Preparatory<br />
departments, in addition to serving as Dr. Brouwer’s<br />
graduate assistant.<br />

<strong>Cleveland</strong> for CIM’s<br />
benefit concert and<br />

February.<br />

evening. He was<br />
extremely impressed<br />
with the talent<br />
and ability <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Orchestra, conducted<br />
by Carl Topilow.
