From our analysis the total investment required up to 2030 for all the projects of water<br />

supply is estimated at about Rs. 62667 lacs and only in the first phase it is estimated as<br />

Rs. 19478 lacs.<br />

11.3. Sewerage<br />

To improve the condition of the sewerage system in Meerut and to connect the whole city<br />

with a centralized system, different projects are identified as part of CIP (target year<br />

2012) and vision (target year 2030). From our analysis, the total investment required in<br />

this sector is estimated about Rs. 95183.8 lacs and in first phase it is estimated at about<br />

Rs. 23457.8 lacs<br />

11.4. Solid Waste Management<br />

To make the system of disposal technical and favorable to environment and also for<br />

hazardous waste disposal certain projects are identified as part of CIP (target year 2012).<br />

From our analysis, the total investment required for this sector is estimated about Rs.<br />

2579.38 lacs and the whole situation can be improved in these seven years only i.e. in<br />

first phase, after that only proper maintenance is required.<br />

11.5. Drainage<br />

The nala’s in the city are in dismal condition and also abused and encroached by different<br />

people which does not let proper cleaning and maintenance of the nallas causing floods<br />

and overflowing in the heavy flow conditions. To recover from this condition certain<br />

projects have been identified as part of CIP (target year 2012) and vision (target year<br />

2030). From our analysis, the total investment required in this sector is estimated about<br />

Rs. 38640.30 lacs and in first phase it is estimated at about Rs. 18862.80 lacs<br />

11.6. Road and Road Transport<br />

Details of investment of projects regarding up gradation of existing infrastructure and<br />

construction of proposed new infrastructure is given in CIP (target year 2012). From our<br />

analysis, the total investment required for this sector is estimated about Rs. 22362.50<br />

lacs.<br />

The National Capital Planning Board (NCRPB) along with the Japan International<br />

Cooperation Agency (JICA) in their study titled ‘Feasibility Study on the Construction of<br />

Expressway in the National Capital Region’ had recommended the construction of Meerut<br />

– Ghaziabad Expressway along with other Links in the NCR. The total project cost was<br />

expected to be 538 Crores. It was recommended that the project would be taken up in the<br />

second phase i.e. 2011 - 2021.<br />

The NCR in its Regional Plan – 2021 has recommended the construction of following<br />

projects that pertain to Meerut:<br />

Four laning of Meerut – Ghaziabad – Delhi segment of NH-58 (Phase I)<br />

Rapid Rial Transit System for Ghazaibad – Merut segment (Phase II)<br />

Upgradation of Meerut Hapur Grid Road (Phase II)<br />
