Aircraft: A343 for FSX by Thomas Ruth
Panel
Gauges: The airspeed gauge in the middle of the panel needs fixing. Available in the forum
section. After installing the fix by Thomas Ruth everything worked well.
Note: Installing the additional sound pack in the download section will disable sound effects
in the overhead panel.
Bitmaps are based on the default A321 panel providing a clean uncluttered layout.
The panel has a GPS and radio. A FMC and TCAS would be a nice addition as these are
standard in all modern airliners.
Visibility over the panel is generally good.
Ease of use : Easy to use and most buttons and dials functioning. My only gripe with all
Thomas Ruth aircraft is that the functionality of the overhead panel are very restricted. Most
simmers won’t notice but when you use checklists it becomes evident.
Virtual Cockpit
Yes, very nice. Also available in 2D when using numpad arrows to look around.
Exterior
Nice wing flex and drooping on tarmac.
Doors work as advertised.
Very neat gear animation.
Control surfaces animated
Flaps 1 setting opens leading edge spoiler? Very subtle but good looking animation.
I like the PT paintjob.
Taxi
Warning: Do not exceed speed limits or this bird will skid off course in a turn!
Speed need constant throttle input. I recommend installing the ground handling gauge.
Takeoff
The flaps worked better after the fix.
Acceleration is brisk for such a large aircraft.
Takeoff: flap 3 at 150 kts 60% of MTOW About 6000 ft of runway
Climb performance
Very stable climb at default 1800 fpm speed 240kts.
Slight V/S adjustment needed above FL250 to maintain speed.
As with most FSX aircraft the AP is holding just below the set speed.
Fuel burn during climb is 27110 lbs/h
Cruise Performance
No problems maintaining height and direction with A/P. Manual trimming is a different story
altogether.
Fuel burn in cruise is 14000 lbs/h @ FL360 KIAS: 280, TAS: 480 N1: 70%
Descent
Slight tendency to gain speed at -1800 fpm with AP.
Recommend manual throttle for descent.
Approach
Intercepting the ILS glide slope was smooth. Not many aircraft can do this in FSX.
The A/P and A/T perform well. Minor speed adjustments was necessary but not annoying.
Landing
Touchdown and flare was on the numbers in AP mode. Nice and stable when manual.
Auto Spoilers/Airbrakes
Spoilers deploy on front wheel touchdown when armed.
Braking
No auto braking in panel to select. Did not check if shortcut works.
Manual braking very effective, maybe too good.
Anti skid available. Not tested.
Reverse thrust very effective.
Frame rate
No noticeable drop on Pentium 4 3Ghz, 2 gb Ram and Gforce 210 500mb Display Card.
Summary
This is one of the better Freeware aircraft available.
