Graduate Scheme A trainees of Towngas undertaking 

training at IC in April 2012. IC is an approved 

training centre of the Hong Kong Institution of 

Engineers (HKIE) Graduate Scheme A Training. Many 

companies send their newly recruited engineering 

graduates to undertake training at the Centre in 

order to fulfil the requirements as stipulated by the 

HKIE.

The signing of an Memorandum of 

Understanding (MoU) between 


(PolyU) and The Boeing Company has 

paved the way for the establishment 

of Hong Kong’s first Aviation Services 

Research Centre (ASRC). 

Witnessed by Mr John TSANG, the 

Financial Secretary of the HKSAR 

Government; Miss Janet WONG, 

Commissioner for Innovation and 

Technology of the HKSAR Government, 

Ms Marjorie YANG, Chairman of PolyU 

Council and key industry players, the 

MoU was signed by Dr Dong Yang WU, 

Vice President, Boeing Research and 

Technology-China, Boeing (China) Co. 

Ltd and Professor Timothy W. TONG, 

PolyU President, at a special ceremony 

held on 10 November 2012 on the 

university campus. 

Addressing the ceremony, Professor 

Timothy TONG said: “The Aviation 

Services Research Centre will further 

enhance Hong Kong’s leading position 

as a world-class service provider of MRO 

(Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) 

and steer the development of aviation 

related industries in Hong Kong and the 

South China region.” 

“PolyU has a strong track record of 

developing advanced technologies for 

the regional aerospace industry with an 

application-oriented approach”, said 

Dr WU, “we are very excited about this 

opportunity of partnering with PolyU and 

other industry partners to jointly develop 

technologies and enhance capabilities 

that will support the sustainable growth 

of the aviation industry in China.” 

PolyU Vice President (Research 

Development) Professor Alexander WAI 

was pleased to note that the partnership 

is supported by the Hong Kong SAR 

Government and especially the 

Innovation and Technology Commission. 

It has also engaged the support and 

participation of key industry players 

Mr Augustus TANG, Chief Executive 

Officer of HAECO said: “As a leading 

MRO in the world, HAECO fully supports 

the establishment of Hong Kong’s first 

Aviation Services Research Centre which 

will further strengthen and expand the 

capabilities of the industry, especially 

with the advent of state-of-the-art 

technologies in the manufacturing of 

aircraft and engines. Aircraft engineering 

and maintenance is a fast growing 

industry especially in this region and 

we believe the research centre will help 

enhancing the profile and appeal of the 

industry for the younger generation 

to become aircraft engineering 

professionals.” 

Mr Richard KENDALL, Director & 

General Manager of HAESL, added 

that his company was also delighted 

to be joining as a participant to the 

agreement. “HAESL has a longstanding 

history of partnership with PolyU in 

training and through the provision of 

scholarships for its students”, he said. 

“Furthermore, it has been working 

closely for many years with the PolyU IC 

on the design and manufacture of tools 

and innovative machinery to support 

the development of large fan jet engine 

maintenance in Hong Kong, and the 

repair of engine components. By joining 

this collaboration in the ASRC with PolyU 

and Boeing, we have the opportunity to 

bring this existing collaboration to an 

even higher level.” 

Dr Angus CHEUNG, CEO of CASL, said 

the company has been in cooperation 

with PolyU for a long time in provision of 

aircraft maintenance and related training

establishment of ASRC in Hong Kong will 

definitely enhance Hong Kong’s status 

in facing the challenges for the aviation 

industry ahead. 

Through its partnership with Boeing, 

PolyU will raise the standard of the MRO 

industry and help it to scale new heights. 

The process is expected to bring huge 

economic benefits to Hong Kong and 

the Chinese mainland as the MRO supply 

chain is a huge, long growing and high 

profit generating business. 

The ASRC is backed by top-notch 

expertise at the PolyU Industrial Centre 

(IC) which boasts a strong track record 

of making state-of-the-art space tools 

and its close relationship with aerospace 

industry. The PolyU IC made its mark 

internationally by making space tools 

for the Russian Space Agency and the 

European Space Agency. It also supports 

the making of the space tools for China’s 

projected lunar exploration. Locally, 

PolyU IC has been working closely with 

CASL, HAECO and HAESL. 

Dr Stephen O’BRIEN, 

Director of PolyU IC, said 

“The PolyU IC is only too 

pleased to have taken 

part in the preparation 

and discussions with the 

participating parties for the 

setting up of ASRC with

research findings and 

industrial exploitation in

先生、創新科技署署長王榮珍女士、理大 

校董會主席楊敏德女士及業界主要持份者 

的見證下 , 波音研究與技術 ( 中國 ) 副 

總裁伍東揚博士與理大校長唐偉章教授於 

2012 年 11 月 10 日簽署合作備忘錄 , 簽約儀 

式在理大校園舉行。 

唐偉章校長在簽約儀式上表示 :「新成立 

的航空服務研究中心有助進一步鞏固香 

港在提供世界級飛機維修工程 ( 行內簡稱 

MRO) 的領先地位 , 促進香港及華南地 

區航空相關行業的未來發展。」 

伍博士表示 :「理大有製造先進太空儀器 

的驕人往績 , 以應用作為研究導向。我們 

很期待今次與理大及其他業界夥伴合作 , 

可發展科技及提升實力 , 支持中國航空業

理大副校長 ( 科研發展 ) 衞炳江教授對於 

今次合作計劃獲香港特區政府支持 , 深 

感高興 , 並特別鳴謝創新科技署的鼎力支

At the PolyU Distinguished 

Knowledge Transfer Awards 2012 

Presentation Ceremony held on 14 

June 2012, IC’s long term partner Hong 

Kong Aero Engine Services Limited 

(HAESL) was awarded the Distinguished 

Knowledge Transfer Partnership Award 

to recognize its support to PolyU’s 

knowledge transfer activities. The Award 

was presented to Mr Mick BROWN, 

General Manager, Operations, HAESL, 

by Professor Timothy TONG, PolyU’s 

President, at the Presentation Ceremony. 

The collaboration between HAESL 

and IC can be dated back to 2002. 

Through the years, IC has offered 

professional consultancy services to 

enhance the efficiency, effectiveness 

and cost management of HAESL’s 

operation services, process and system 

management, deliverable, workplace 

safety and manpower quality. Projects 

in collaboration with HAESL include 

an automated NDT carousel system, 

automatic stake welding machine for 

honeycomb segments and a solution 

for the more efficient machining of 

turbine blades. In 2006 HAESL was also 

nominated by IC to receive the “Most 

Valuable Partners Award” from PTeC. 

HAESL is a joint venture company 

between Rolls-Royce plc, Hong Kong 

Aircraft Engineering Company Limited 

(HAECO), a member of the Swire Group, 

and SIA Engineering Company (SIAEC). 

HAESL provides world-class aero engine 

and component repair services to many 

of the world’s most respected airlines 

that have chosen Rolls-Royce to power 

their fleet of Airbus and Boeing aircraft. 

At the same occasion, the Interactive 

Intention-Driven Upper Limb Training 

Robotic System project led by Dr 

Raymond TONG Kai-yu of PolyU’s 

Interdisciplinary Division of Biomedical 

Engineering (formerly the Department 

of Health Technology and Informatics), 

and supported by IC, also received 

the PolyU’s Distinguished Knowledge 

Transfer Excellence Award. The project 

was further awarded the Community 

Excellence Grand Award by PTeC for 

its significant impact to the society 

and community. This project has 

already received a gold medal at the 

62 nd International Trade Fair “Ideas – 

Inventions – New Products” held in

香港航空發動機維修服務有限公司 

(HAESL) 是一家合資公司 , 由勞斯萊斯 

股份有限公司、香港飛機工程有限公司 

(HAECO)( 太古集團成員 ) 和新加坡國際航 

空工程有限公司 (SIAEC) 聯合組建。香港 

航空發動機維修服務有限公司 (HAESL) 為 

全球多家頂尖的航空公司提供世界一流的 

航空發動機和零部件維修服務 , 而這些航 

空公司的空中客車和波音客機都選用了勞 

斯萊斯的發動機。 

在同一場合中 , 由理大生物醫學工程跨領 

域學部湯啟宇博士帶領研究並由工業中心 

支援製造的「肌動機械手」訓練系統 , 亦 

獲頒贈卓越知識轉移項目獎。該項目並獲 

大會頒發卓越社會項目獎 ─ 大獎 , 以表揚 

科研人員在加強中風患者的復康訓練上所 

作的貢獻。該項目於 2010 年 10 月在德國紐 

倫堡市舉行的第 62 屆「國際創意、發明及 

新產品展」中亦榮獲金獎。

The Industrial Centre has been trying 

its best to maintain a wide range of 

technologies, facilities and equipment 

to benefit its students and staff. The 

primary source of funding from the 

University and Government can only 

help to maintain, upgrade and replace 

facilities, equipment and software to a 

limited scale and amount. A significant 

number of machine over 20 years old are 

still found at the Centre. 

However the Centre is fortunate to have 

long term partners who sponsor, donate 

and consign advanced and updated 

facilities, equipment and software to 

the Centre. The latest donation is from 

CivilConnect Limited who has donated 

50 sets of software licences for S-FRAME, 

S-STEEL and S-CONCRETE worth more 

than HK$3.6 million to IC, together with 

enhancement and support service for 

a period of three years. The software 

donation aims at promoting good 

practices and innovative and reliable 

solutions in structural engineering 

analysis and design. Computer programs 

included in the software donation are 

pre-accepted programs under the 

Practice Note for Authorized Person and 

Registered Structural Engineer No. 79. 

These programs are for use by Authorized 

Persons, Registered Structural Engineers 

and Registered Geotechnical Engineers 

to produce calculations in support of 

their design submissions to the Building 

Authority under the Buildings Ordinance. 

In addition to the software, CivilConnect 

Limited will also provide training support 

and training manuals to IC to assist in 

the development of appropriate training 

programmes and activities for students.

業中心一直致力維持一個擁有多元 

工化技術、設施和設備的環境予學生 

和教職員。大學和政府能夠提供的資源十 

分有限 , 只能有限度的維持、更新和更換 

設備和軟件。因此工業中心仍有為數不少 

已使用超過二十年或以上的設備。 

幸好工業中心多年來一直獲得許多工業 

夥伴的鼎力支持 , 向工業中心捐贈和贊 

助不同設備和軟件。最近 , 工業中心便 

喜獲譽鋒顧問有限公司捐贈

A Improvement Works for W F Joseph 

Lee Primary School” initiated by IC was 

awarded a Certificate of Excellence in 

PolyU’s Community Service Learning 

Awards 2010/11 as a recognition of the 

students’ community service learning 

and their project supervisors. The student 

summer project was led by Ir Albert 

KWOK Wing-keung, Senior Engineer of 

Industrial Centre and Ir Rex CHAM Yuikee, 

Engineer of Industrial Centre. 

The student summer project was 

completed in the summer of 2011, 

aiming at improving the space utilisation 

and facilities of the school’s campus 

to provide a better environment 

for the students particularly in their 

various extra-curricular activities. The 

project was offered as Work-integrated 

Education (WIE) for around 200 students 

from PolyU’s Department of Building 

& Real Estate (BRE) and Department 

of Civil & Structural Engineering (CSE), 

with the aim of providing real work 

opportunities for PolyU students in the 

area of building and construction to 

enhance their professional knowledge 

and skills. The work was also meant to 

promote students’ care and concern for 

their community. 

With the implementation of the four-year 

curriculum starting in September 2012, 

PolyU will introduce a credit-bearing 

“service-learning” requirement to the 

curriculum. All undergraduate students

的課程及課外活動。工業中心將該校舍改 

善工程計劃列為校企協作教育活動 , 並安 

排了約二百名來自理大建築及房地產學系 

及土木及結構工程學系的學生參與。是次 

與和富慈善基金李宗德小學的合作 , 旨在 

為學生提供真實的建築工程項目 , 訓練及 

提昇學生的專業知識及技能 , 並希望鼓勵 

學生多關心及參與社會活動。 

為了配合四年制本科課程於 2012 年 9 月正 

式推行 , 理大將會把「服務學習」納入課 

程的學分必修科 , 藉此鼓勵所有學生學以

College MACSPA & Peake Scholarship for 

their outstanding performance in their 

group project work and project report. 

Five nominations were received from IC 

supervisors this year. The four student 

groups other than the nomination 

for the Technical College MACSPA 

& Peake Scholarship were invited to 

make a presentation to the IC senior 

management to allow them to make 

a fair judgement and selection. The

The 10 th International Conference 

on Modern Industrial Training 

(10CMIT) jointly organized by Dalian 

University of Technology (DUT) and 


Industrial Centre was successfully held 

from 20 to 23 October 2012, at Dalian 

University of Technology, Dalian, China. 

Around 120 papers were received and 

over 100 participants and speakers from 

Mainland China, Hong Kong, United 

Kingdom, Japan, Ghana, Australia, and 

the Philippines joined the Conference. 

The 10CMIT programme focused on the 

concept and connotations of industrial 

training, operational management 

of an industrial training centre, workintegrated-education 

and industrial 

partnership, and technologies and 

infrastructure. In addition to keynote 

presentations and plenary sessions, 

industrial visit to Dalian Machine Tool 

Group Corporation and Volkswagen FAW 

Engine (Dalian) Co., Ltd. was arranged on 

the last day of the conference.

Conference on Modern Industrial 

Training (CMIT) is a triennial event jointly 

organized by The Hong Kong Polytechnic 

University and a key university in 

Mainland China. The CMIT aims to be a 

platform for reviewing and exchanging 

ideas and experience in modern industrial 

training, and to promote the inclusion of 

intellectually challenging and relevant 

industrial training as an integral part of 

higher education. 

The first conference was hosted in 

Guangzhou in 1986 by South China 

University of Technology, then 

successively in Nanjing, Wuhan, Xi’an, 

Jinan, Beijing, Chongqing, Hong Kong, 

Nanjing and Dalian. The 11CMIT is 

tentatively scheduled for Beijing, China 

in 2015.

exhibition recently held 

in the Hong Kong Cultural 

Centre, terracotta warriors 

were not quite the same as 

you have seen in Xian, China. 

With the aid of modern 

product design technologies 

and imagination of parents and kids, 

these ancient terracotta warriors have evolved to 

become novel and stylish warriors.

難以想像 ? 看過在香港文化中心展出的兵馬俑後 , 你 

會發現他們與傳統的西安兵馬俑截然不同。

Thirty-six local families with children 

aged from 6 to 12 participated in 

a series of Terracotta Warrior Figure 

Parents and Kids Workshop offered by 

the Industrial Centre on Saturdays over 

the period of 7 July to 11 August 2012. 

Parents and kids used their imagination 

and cooperated to design and make 

their very own Terracotta Warrior Robot. 

Their fruitful design and make outcomes 

were exhibited in “The Terracotta Warrior 

Inspired Design” Finale Exhibition held in 

the Hong Kong Cultural Centre over the 

period of 16 August to 9 September 2012. 

The aim of the workshop is to provide 

an opportunity for the participants to 

appreciate how modern product design 

technologies can support creativity as 

well as to explore their imagination and 

design thinking. 

digital models were printed by a 3D 

printer. In about two hours, fully detailed 

solid figures were generated. Once the 

3D-printing was completed, parents 

and kids could “excavate” their figure 

parts from the printer and assemble the 

complete figure. The final assembled 

warrior is about 200 mm high, a bipod, 

and able to walk straight on flat surfaces 

after being switched on. 

The feedback from the workshop was 

overwhelming. Participants felt that the 

workshop not only provided parents and 

kids with the opportunity to learn and 

experience new technologies but also the 

opportunity to use their imagination and 

cooperate to design and make their very 

own Terracotta Warrior Robot. Some 

parents said the workshop also aroused 

their kids’ interest in Chinese history, in 

particular the history of Qin Dynasty. 

The parents and kids devoted much 

time and effort in beautifying and styling 

their very own terracotta warrior robot. 

Every fully assembled warrior robot was 

unique. Imagination and creativity were 

demonstrated at a great level in every 

warrior robot. 

The workshops and exhibition were 

activities delivered through “The 

Terracotta Warrior Inspired Design” 

Public Art Programmes co-organised 

by the Leisure and Cultural Services 

Department and the Hong Kong Design 

Centre. The Public Art Programmes were 

launched with the aim of promoting 

“The Majesty of All Under Heaven — The 

Eternal Realm of China’s First Emperor” 

Exhibition which celebrates the 15 th 

anniversary of the establishment of 

HKSAR. 

A total of six workshops were delivered 

and the duration of each workshop was 

3 hours. In the workshop, parents and 

kids were first given a brief introduction 

to the 3D printing technologies and 

related facilities. After the introduction, 

each family worked on a computer 

workstation digitally to compose a 

terracotta warrior inspired miniature toy 

figure from pre-defined parts developed 

by IC. Parents and kids could exercise 

their design freedom by mixing and 

matching parts, reshaping, and adding 

colours to their figure design. Completed 

A unique Terracotta Warrior robot is finally assembled after hours of work and

三 7 至 8 月 11 日期間的星期六 , 參加了 

由香港理工大學工業中心舉辦的兵馬俑機 

械人設計親子工作坊。家長與子女運用他 

們的豐富想像力和合作精神 , 共同設計和 

製作他們獨特的兵馬俑機械人。他們的創 

作成果在一個名為「由兵馬俑啟發設計」 

的作品展覽上展出。該展覽於香港文化中 

心於 2012 年 8 月 16 日至 9 月 9 日期間展出。 

是次工作坊的目的是讓參加者了解現代產 

品設計技術如何協助人們發揮創意 , 並協 

助參加者發揮他們的想像力和設計思維。 

工業中心共舉辦了六次、每次三小時的工 

作坊。在工作坊上 , 工業中心的技術人員 

首先向參與的家庭介紹三維打印技術和有 

關設備。介紹完畢後 , 每個家庭會安排一 

個電腦工作站 , 合力利用電腦軟件把工業 

中心預先設計的部件加入各自的設計中 , 

並透過電腦軟件增減和配搭部件、改變部 

件外形及為部件著色 , 製作出他們心目中 

的設計。經家長和子女合作配搭和修改的 

電腦設計通過工業中心的三維打印設計輸 

出。約兩小時左右 , 家長和子女合作的設

3. The completed digital models are printed by a 3D printer

Knowing 3D Printing 

認識多些三維打印 

“Three-dimensional printing makes it as cheap to create 

single items as it is to produce thousands and thus 

undermines economies of scale. It may have as profound 

an impact on the world as the coming of the factory did... 

Just as nobody could have predicted the impact of the 

steam engine in 1750—or the printing press in 1450, or the 

transistor in 1950—it is impossible to foresee the longterm 

impact of 3D printing. But the technology is coming, 

and it is likely to disrupt every field it touches.” 

hree-dimensional (3D) printing is one

reported in the past several years. 3D 

Printing or Additive Manufacturing refers 

to the process of producing a physical 

model layer by layer in accordance with 

the geometrical data derived from a 

3D digital or CAD (Computer-aided 

Design) model. Its concept is opposite 

to traditional machining. The latter relies 

on the removal of material by different 

methods such as cutting and drilling. 

3D Printing is renowned for its short 

manufacturing time. Depending on the 

size of the model, it may take only a few 

hours to produce a physical model by 

using 3D Printing technology. Moreover, 

it can be less expensive to produce small 

quantities of parts by 3D Printing. With 

the rapid development of technologies, 

the cost of a 3D printer or 3D printing 

facilities has gone down greatly, which 

makes this technology even more 

tempting nowadays. 3D Printing is 

extremely versatile, being found in fields 

such as jewellery, footwear, architecture, 

automobile, aerospace, 

healthcare and civil 

engineering. 

Additive Manufacturing or 

3D Printing was introduced 

to IC more than 10 years 

ago. The Centre is now 

equipped with a series of 

machines and facilities 

providing 

different 

additive manufacturing 

technologies and solutions, 

including Selective Laser 

Sintering (SLS), Fused 

Deposition Modelling

The Economist has made numerous 

reports on 3D Printing technology, for 

example, in the 1o th February 2011 Issue 

it stated “Three-dimensional printing 

makes it as cheap to create single items 

as it is to produce thousands and thus 

undermines economies of scale. It may 

have as profound an impact on the world 

as the coming of the factory did... Just as 

nobody could have predicted the impact 

of the steam engine in 1750—or the 

printing press in 1450, or the transistor 

in 1950—it is impossible to foresee the 

long-term impact of 3D printing. But the 

technology is coming, and it is likely to 

disrupt every field it touches.”

大降低 , 令這項技術更為吸引。三維打印 

技術的應用非常廣泛。在珠寶、鞋類、建 

築、汽車、航空航天、醫療、土木工程等 

領域都能找到三維打印的應用。 

添加製造或三維打印技術在十多年前已被 

引進到工業中心。工業中心現擁有一系列 

的機器和設備 , 提供多種添加製造技術和 

解決方案 , 包括選擇性激光燒結 (SLS)、 

熔融沉積成型 (FDM)、光固化 (SLA)、石 

膏粉末三維打印等。 

「三維打印技術的出現使得生產單個產品的成本和生產上千產 

品時一樣低廉 , 也埋沒了規模經濟的優勢。三維打印技術將對

技術的原理與傳統的機械加工技術恰恰相 

反。後者是以去除材料方式如切割、鑽孔 

等方式來進行加工製造。 

三維打印技術以製造時間短而聞名。以三 

維打印技術製造的實體模型 , 體積較為細 

小的可以在幾個小時內便完成。此外 , 以 

技術人員和工程師認為三維打印技術將影 

響深遠。越來越多的企業和研究機構亦正 

研究三維打印技術在新領域的應用。著名 

雜誌《經濟學人》便多次報導及介紹三維 

打印。該雜誌在 2011 年 2 月的一篇文章便 

這樣描述 :「三維打印技術的出現使得生 

產單個產品的成本和生產上千產品時一樣 

低廉 , 也埋沒了規模經濟的優勢。三維打 

印技術將對未來產生的影響不亞於工業革 

命 ….. 沒有人能夠預知三維打印技術的長

MISSION: DESIGN & MAKE A ROBOTIC DOG 

任務 : 設計及製造機械犬 

The Industrial Centre recently 

collaborated with Singapore’s 

Institution of Technical Education (ITE) 

to offer joint student exchange project 

for students of the PolyU and ITE. Four 

higher diploma students from PolyU’s 

School of Design and four technical 

engineer diploma students from ITE 

joined hands to design and make a 

Robotic Dog, a security device for 

detecting intruders and alerting the 

house owner. 

The collaboration was kicked off in 

August 2011 when the eight students 

started to discuss on the project concept. 

They communicated through social 

network and online applications such as 

Facebook and Skype. Once the project 

direction was finalised, PolyU students 

started to work on the device’s product 

design and prototype while ITE students 

started to work on the mechanical and 

electronic parts. After several months of 

design, modification and manufacturing, 

the two student teams finally met in 

March 2012 when PolyU students led 

by their IC supervisor visited ITE in 

Singapore. Students worked together to 

fabricate and assemble the device in time 

for a demonstration at ITE’s Project Fair. 

A presentation on the device was also 

made by all students during the project 

fair. PolyU students were also offered 

the opportunity to visit ITE’s workshop 

and a helicopter manufacturing and 

service support company in Singapore. 

The experience is really eye-opening for 

PolyU students. 

The exchange activity is not yet 

completed. IC invited the ITE students

to pay a visit to Hong Kong in May 

2012. They were invited to participate 

in PolyU’s School of Design Graduation 

Show. Visits to IC and local institutions 

were also arranged for ITE students as 

part of the exchange programme. 

The whole activity lasted for almost 

ten months. The two groups of student 

cannot afford to physically meet 

frequently to discuss on the project 

details. Yet their communications were 

not restricted as they could use social 

networks and other free applications to 

communicate online. Another valuable 

experience was the cultural difference: 

they had to communicate in different 

languages and they had to appreciate

and cope with different ways of work. 

A PolyU student expressed the ITE 

students were very used to present in 

an interactive way without a script while 

PolyU students are used to preparing a 

script and doing rehearsals. 

This exchange programme was 

subsidised by the PolyU School of Design 

and the PolyU Student Affairs Office. 

業中心與新加坡工藝教育學院 (ITE) 

工攜手合作為兩校學生提供交流活 

動。四位分別來自理大設計學院的高級文 

憑課程學生及新加坡工藝教育學院工程文 

憑課程學生 , 在工業中心及新加坡工藝教 

育學院的安排和帶領下 , 合作設計及製造 

「機械犬」, 提供家居保安監察服務。 

是次合作自去年 (2011 年 ) 八月開始 , 兩地 

學生就項目的內容及方向展開討論。儘 

管學生分隔香港和新加坡兩地 , 他們的討 

論卻沒有受到地域距離的影響。學生通過 

流行的社交網站及免費線上應用程式如 

Facebook 及 Skype 等進行項目的討論和交 

流。項目的內容及方向一經雙方決定後 , 

兩地學生便開始分工合作。理大學生負責 

機械犬的外觀設計及原型製造 , 而新加坡 

ITE 學生則負責機械犬的機械及電子設計 

和製造。經過數月的設計、修改及製造工 

作 , 理大四位學生在工業中心導師的帶領 

下在今年三月終於飛抵新加坡工藝教育學 

院與其他學生隊員見面 , 合作組裝機械犬 

及參加該校的項目展。八位學生在項目展 

上介紹及展示他們共同努力的成果。理大 

學生更獲安排參觀新加坡工藝教育學院的 

車間以及參觀新加坡的一間直升機製造及 

支援服務企業。

參觀了理大設計學院的設計畢業展 , 以及 

參觀了工業中心車間及本地企業。 

整個交流活動長達十個月。雖然學生分隔 

香港及新加坡兩地 , 他們的討論及交流並 

未因此而受到影響。學生充分利用了各種 

流行社交網絡及免費渠道來進行項目的討 

論。此外 , 學生透過是次項目亦深深感受 

到兩地文化的差異。學生需要以不同語言 

來溝通 , 並且需要學習欣賞及面對不同的 

工作方式。其中一位理大學生便發現新加 

坡學生在項目答辯中較喜愛以互動形式進 

行 , 而且不習慣預備講稿 ; 反觀理大學生 

便較習慣預先準備講稿並重覆進行綵排。 

是次交流活動得以順利完成 , 除了雙方院 

校的合作和參與外 , 亦得到理大設計學院 

及理大學生事務處的資助。

Over 23,500 participants recorded 

under IC’s Minor Works Course 

工業中心小型工程承建商培訓課程人數 

突破二萬三千五百人 

As a measure to improve building 

safety in Hong Kong, the 

Government amended the Buildings 

Ordinance in June 2008 to introduce the 

Minor Works Control System (MWCS), 

facilitating members of the public to 

carry out minor works in private buildings 

lawfully through simplified procedures. 

The Minor Works Control System (MWCS) 

has been fully implemented since 31 

December 2010. A register of minor 

works contractors has been established 

under the MWCS. Contractor companies 

and individual practitioners can register 

as minor works contractors in relevant 

classes and types or items by virtue of 

their work experience, qualifications 

and competence. As currently not all 

practitioners and companies can meet 

the statutory requirements, accredited 

top-up courses and training courses 

are offered by institutes to help them 

to meet the statutory requirements for 

registration since 2009. 

IC was nominated by the Building 

Department of the Hong Kong 

Government as one of the accredited 

training institutes. Since October 2009 

IC has been offering different types 

of training course for registration as 

Registered Minor Works Contractors. 

The duration of these training courses 

varies from a few hours to days and all 

courses were delivered in the evening 

or during holidays. Thanks to the 

continuous contribution and dedication 

of a group of teaching and supporting 

staff members, the courses have been 

well delivered, highly commended and 

recommended by the participants. The 

demand for all types of training courses 

is extremely overwhelming. More than 

400 training courses were offered to over 

23,500 participants since October 2009 

and some of the courses are still being 

offered. 

To express its heartfelt thanks to the 

teaching staff, visiting lecturers and 

supporting staff, the Centre specially 

arranged a thank you dinner for them in 

September 2012.

提升香港樓宇的安全 , 香港政府已 

為於 2008 年 6 月修訂《建築物條例》 

, 引入「小型工程監管制度」, 方便市民 

循簡化的法定程序 , 在私人樓宇進行小規 

模的建築工程。「小型工程監管制度」已 

於 2010 年 12 月 31 日全面實施。政府並已在 

新的「小型工程監管制度」下設立了一個 

「小型工程承建商」名冊。工程公司和個 

人從業員可按其工作經驗、資歷和勝任能 

力 , 申請註冊成為不同級別和類型或項目 

的小型工程承建商。由於目前並非所有業 

界人士及公司均能符合政府規定的要求 , 

因此屋宇署特別委託了一些培訓機構 , 自 

2009 年起提供認可的補足資格培訓課程及 

其他培訓課程供業內人士及公司參加。 

工業中心是香港政府屋宇署委託的培訓機 

構之一。自 2009 年 10 月起 , 工業中心已 

開始舉辦註冊小型工程承建商的各級培訓 

課程。培訓課程上課時間由數小時至數天 

不等 , 所有課程只在晚間時段、週末及假 

期時舉行。課程獲得工業中心有關的教學 

人員、客座講師和後勤支援人員的長期參 

與和支持 , 令課程素質獲得保證。課程自 

推出以來 , 參與人士對課程評價均十分正 

面 , 對課程的需求更有增無減。自 2009 年 

10 月以來 , 工業中心已舉辦超過四百個課 

程 , 參加課程人數超過二萬三千五百人。 

目前有部分課程仍在舉辦中。 

為答謝課程教師、客座講師及後勤支援人 

員對該課程的長期支持和他們的優秀教學 

素質及後勤支援服務 , 工業中心特別於今 

年九月為他們舉辦了答謝宴。 

Minor Works Control System (MWCS) 

Under the minor works control system, a total of 118 items 

of building works have been included as minor works 

and they are classified into three classes (Class I, II & III) 

according to their scale, complexity and risk to safety, and 

will be subject to different degrees of control. Contractor 

companies and individual practitioners can register as 

minor works contractors of the relevant classes and types 

by virtue of their work experience, qualifications and 

competence. Class I and II minor works contractors are 

companies, while Class III minor works contractors can be 

companies or individuals. 

小型工程監管制度 

在「小型工程監管制度」下 , 共有 118 項建築工程被納入為 

小型工程。這些小型工程按其性質、規模、複雜程度和安全 

風險 , 被分為三個級別 ( 第 I、II 及 III 級別 ), 並實施不同程度的 

監管。工程公司或個別從業員可根據其工作經驗、資歷和升 

任能力 , 申請註冊成為不同級別、類型或項目的小型工程承 

建商。第 I 及第 II 級別的註冊小型工程承建商是公司 , 第 III 級 

別的註冊小型工程承建商可以是公司或個別人士。

若以上學的課程比喻為人生 ,「人生課程」往往包含了「職業課」、「健康課」、 

「家庭課」、...... 等。有些人「職業課」成績優異 , 但「健康課」或「家庭課」卻不 

合格。「職業課」成績差或會致使沒有條件享受人生 ; 但把「職業課」當作「人生 

課程」的全部卻會致使沒有時間享受人生。

快樂與否自負盈虧 

不少人在工作上及生活上經常處於不開心的狀態 , 導致不開心通常是由於「得不到 

想得到的」又或是由於「得到不想得到的」而產生。 

工作也好 , 生活也好 , 每個人都毫無例外會遇到各種困難。 

有多少本事解決困難會大大影響職業發展路 ; 

以什麼心態面對困難會大大影響人生快樂度 ! 

「團隊意識」與「主人翁意識」 

不少西方國家提倡「團隊意識」, 而內地則提倡「主人翁意識」。「團隊意識」強 

調團隊裡每一成員都是不可缺少的組成部分 ,「團隊意識」的精髓在於「一切以團 

隊產出最大化為原則」。 

「主人翁意識」強調團隊裡每一成員都是主人。例如球隊裡的球員應具備「主人翁 

意識」意指「每一球員都是球隊裡的主人 , 每人都有責任不斷努力爭取球隊成績最 

大化」。所以 ,「主人翁意識」的精髓在於「提醒團隊裡每一成員都是主人 , 主 

人是有責任不斷努力爭取團隊產出最大化」。筆者認為「團隊意識」與「主人翁意 

識」都非常好 , 有異曲同工之妙 , 但可惜有不少人不自覺地歪曲了「主人翁 

意識」的意思 , 導致自己工作既不開心 , 又拖著整個團隊發展的後腿。 

「真主人翁意識」事實是「自動自發為團隊做貢獻不已」! 

「偽主人翁意識」其實是「自私自利以自我為中心而已」! 

人生實相 :「悲歡離合」 

職場「悲歡離合」 

● ● 工作中彼此相互含怨 —— 悲 ! 

● ● 工作中上下齊心協力 —— 歡 ! 

● ● 人望高處或水向低流 —— 離 ! 

● ● 判斷錯誤或各取所需 —— 合 ! 

情場「悲歡離合」 

● ● 找不到所愛沒有伴侶 —— 悲 ; 

找到所不愛成為伴侶 —— 更悲 ! 

● ● 能與自己喜歡的人在一起 , 

又或能不與自己不喜歡的人在一起 —— 歡 ! 

● ● 世人皆會犯錯 , 結婚亦可結錯。 

昔日舊社會價值觀迫使結錯婚的人堅持錯一輩子 ; 

今日新世紀人生觀容許結錯婚的人隨時改過自新。 

● ● 在茫茫宇宙中尋找失散了的另一半 , 重合的機遇只留給知福者。
