Hill 342! Though I didn’t know it, our hosts knew of my hope<br />

that someday I wanted to return to that hill. In my many past contacts<br />

with our ROK comrades who emigrated to the U.S., and our<br />

dealing with them and the ROK Embassy over the years concerning<br />

our <strong>Korean</strong> <strong>War</strong> <strong>Veterans</strong> Memorial, Hill 342 was known<br />

to them. As was my desire! It is in the nature of our ROK<br />

brethren that they take note of such things and they act on them<br />

if they can.<br />

It was in my mind and I had hoped that time could be found<br />

for me to break away from the organized activities and devote a<br />

day to make a private pilgrimage to an area that figured so prominently<br />

in my life in <strong>Feb</strong>ruary 1951. In fact, my wife and I would<br />

have been “ill” one day if need be for that purpose! Unbeknownst<br />

to me, and not listed on the scheduled events for our visit, our<br />
