SCOPE<br />

This test method specifies a procedure for the determination of the kinematic viscosity of liquid petroleum<br />

products, both transparent and opaque, by measuring the time for a volume of liquid to flow under gravity<br />

through a calibrated glass capillary viscometer.<br />

Bath can be operated from ambient +5°C up to +230°C (41..446°F). With the use of the built-in cooling coil<br />

and an external <strong>Tamson</strong> cooler, span lies 5K above the temperature of the cooling liquid. The TV2000 has a<br />

bath volume of 20 liters. The TV2000 offers two rows of 2 and 1 holes with lids. These will accommodate glass<br />

capillary viscometers in viscometer holders.<br />

MAIN CHARACTERISTICS<br />

The TV12 is a unique viscosity bath with a small footprint. The TV12 can be operated from ambient +5°C up to<br />

+120°C (41..248°F). With the use of the built-in cooling coil and an external <strong>Tamson</strong> cooler, span lies 5K<br />

above the temperature of the cooling liquid. The TV12 has a bath volume of only 12 liters and a unique<br />

stability of 0.005K. The TV12 offers 1 row of 4 holes with lids. These openings will accommodate glass capillary<br />

viscometers in viscometer holders. A permanent light is located in the top plate to supply clear light and<br />

guarantees optimal visibility inside the bath. A bath overflow outlet protects from expanding bath oil when the<br />

bath filling is too high. A bath drain is standard included. The bath is fitted with a double window of which the<br />

front pane is detachable for cleaning purposes.<br />

MAIN CHARACTERISTICS<br />

The TV2000AKV system offers a possibility to determine kinematic viscosity automatically in a way which<br />

complies to the ASTM methods D 445 and D 446. The measuring head is able to measure both transparent and<br />

colored / darker liquids. The sensitivity of the electronic detection system can be adapted for colored liquids.<br />

The measuring head can store up to ten viscometer tube constants. It is further possible to set the amount of<br />

runs (test) per sample. The system determines the best reproducibility from the measuring results. The<br />

TV2000AKV can be operated from ambient +5°C up to +130°C. With the use of the built-in cooling coil and an<br />

external <strong>Tamson</strong> cooler, span lies 5K above the temperature of the cooling liquid. The TV2000AKV has a bath<br />

volume of 20 liters. The viscosity measurement range is defined by the used glass capillaries and may vary<br />

from 0.3 up to 10,000 cSt.<br />

The glass capillary viscometers supplied for the TV2000AKV are completely manufactured according to ASTM D<br />

446 and IP 71, however the timing marks have been omitted for the IR sensors of the electronic detection<br />

system. The tubes are further more precisely manufactured than the norm requires. This guarantees optimal<br />

measuring results. The tubes will be supplied with a factory calibration certificate, stating the viscometer<br />

number and constant of the viscometer. In order to use the TV2000AKV you will need the viscometers which<br />

are only supplied by <strong>Tamson</strong>. The following glass capillary viscometers are available:<br />

SCOPE<br />

This test method specifies a procedure for the determination of the kinematic viscosity of liquid petroleum<br />

products, both transparent and opaque, by measuring the time for a volume of liquid to flow under gravity<br />

through a calibrated glass capillary viscometer.<br />

MAIN CHARACTERISTICS<br />

The TV12LT is a unique viscosity bath with a small footprint. It can be operated from -40°C up to +40°C (-<br />

40..104°F). Other temperature ranges are available. The TV12LT has a bath volume of only 15 liters and a<br />

unique stability. The TV12LT offers 1 row of 4 holes with lids. These openings will accommodate glass capillary<br />

viscometers in viscometer holders. A permanent light is located in the top plate to supply clear light and<br />

guarantees optimal visibility inside the bath. A bath overflow outlet protects from expanding bath oil when the<br />

bath filling is too high. A bath drain is standard included. The bath is fitted with a double window of which the<br />

front pane is detachable for cleaning purposes.<br />

MAIN CHARACTERISTICS<br />

The TLV25 system contains a 25 litres Dewar flask. The fluid in the flask must permanently be cooled by a<br />

separate cryostat. The temperature set point is maintained via a microprocessor controlled heating<br />

element. When using the KV40 or KV80 minimum working temperatures of minus 40°C or minus 80°C can<br />

be reached. All presented data is measured by using a TLV25 filled with 25 litres of methanol and a KV40<br />

or KV80 immersion cooler. At the minimum-temperature, the provided heat removal is still enough to<br />

maintain stable temperature control, even when glasswork is placed in the bath. The systems accuracy is<br />

better than the requirements of ASTM D 445 and ISO 3104. The bath is illuminated by a fluorescent light<br />

built in behind the Dewar-flask. The top lid has a turn table construction with 3 holes + 3 lids of 51 Ø<br />

mm. By turning the lid the immersed viscometer can be positioned in front of the window. This window is<br />

heated to keep clear sight at low temperatures. The set point can be set in steps of 0.1°C from -90°C up<br />

to +60°C (-130..140°F). Overall accuracy is better than ±0.03K.<br />

MAIN CHARACTERISTICS<br />

A <strong>Tamson</strong> TLC15-5 refrigerator circulates a (cold) flow through the double walls of the cylinders. The TLC15-5<br />

maintains the bath temperature within 0.25°C of the test temperature required by the ASTM D1298 method.<br />

Our system is strictly conform to the ASTM D1298 method and conversion tables are not necessary preventing<br />

errors by users. The PTFE valves ensure fast drainage and cleaning of the tube. The easy detachable leakage<br />

tray prevents that portions of the sample are spilled on the workbench. The tripod offers full view on the<br />

hydrometer. Our special ASTM D1298 support eliminates the problem of mounting brackets or portions of a<br />

thermostatic bath blocking the view. The <strong>Tamson</strong> D1298 solution is a complete setup existing of three glass<br />

cylinders, support and circulator. Our system offers an interesting price advantage compared to other solutions<br />

based on a combination of a thermostatic bath with an external chiller. The new ASTM D1298 setup can also be<br />

used for ASTM D287, standard test method for API gravity of crude petroleum and petroleum products having<br />

a Reid vapour pressure of 26 psi (180 kPa) or less. For this method the gravities are determined at 60°F.<br />

<strong>Tamson</strong> Thermometer 3 decimals (TT3)<br />

APPLICATION<br />

The calibration of probes, thermometers, instruments, and indicators and temperature measurement of<br />

viscosity baths.<br />

MAIN CHARACTERISTICS<br />

The <strong>Tamson</strong> Thermometer has a three decimal reading. The thermometer uses a standard PT100 probe for<br />

measurements from -20 ..+250°C or -4 ..+482°F. The thermometer uses an internal correction table to meet<br />

the IEC751 required accuracy of ± 0.01°C. A high accuracy data converter samples the PT100 value and a<br />

microprocessor is used to correct these values. The calibration data is kept in internal memory. A second<br />

memory offers the possibility for data logging. Sampling times can vary from 1 second to 300 seconds. At each<br />

interval the temperature is measured and stored. Each measurement has an individual time stamp and can be<br />

recalled easily using the PC software. The thermometer operates on a Battery pack. A full charge supplies<br />

power for 16 days of continuous use. When off the battery will keep its charge.<br />

Oil Refractive Index Standards<br />

APPLICATION<br />

Calibration Oils are one of the most commonly used materials for calibrating refractometers as they have good<br />

traceability, particularly to NIST. Having a high temperature co-efficient, calibration oils are used where strict<br />

temperature control is adopted, either by Peltier or external waterbath between 10 and 75 °C. Calibration Oils are<br />

batch manufactured and so values may differ slightly from published data. Oils are supplied in multipacks of 5 x 5ml<br />

bottles with a certificate of calibration, MSDS and pipettes and have an expiry date 12-months from date of<br />

dispatch.<br />

For refractometers operating at high temperatures where water starts to evaporate, an oil may be used as a zero<br />

calibration medium. Typical applications include those in the confectionery, edible oil and mineral oil marketplaces.<br />

APPLICATION<br />

ISO 17025 / ISO Guide 34 certified PMCC Flash Point Standards are tested and certified in accordance with<br />

ASTM D93 ‘Standard Test Method for Flash Point by Pensky Martens Closed Cup Tester – Procedure A’.<br />

Procedure A is applicable to distillate fuels – diesels, bio-diesel blends, kerosene, heating oil, turbine fuels and<br />

lubricating oils. ISO 17025 / ISO Guide 34 certified COC Flash Point Standards are tested and certified in<br />

accordance with ASTM D92 ‘Standard Test Method for Flash and Fire Points by Cleveland Open Cup Tester.<br />

A heating immersion circulator is available for various bath tanks up to a capacity of 50 litres and come<br />

equipped with a mounting bridge that fits onto all tanks with a maximum opening of 422 mm.<br />

The <strong>Tamson</strong> Bracket is based on the <strong>Tamson</strong> Thermostatic Unit (TTU) and can be used for heating or/and<br />

circulating purposes. The bath fluid is heated via a microprocessor controlled heating element. The bracket can<br />

be placed on a tank. The width of the bracket can be adjusted between 186 and 422 mm.<br />

The working temperature range offers many application possibilities, e.g. routine laboratory applications,<br />

temperature control of samples, incubations, dental applications, material testing, corrosion tests, tempering of<br />

The “TCXX” baths are used for precise temperature control. The TC16 can be used as circulator or/and<br />

water/oil bath. The TC16 can be used for ASTM D70 purposes together with pycnometers.<br />

MAIN CHARACTERISTICS<br />

The insulation of the bath and electronic design result in a very stable working temperature of ±0.02K for the<br />

TC16. The set point can be set in steps of 0.1° in the range from 0°C up to 250°C (32..482°F). The accuracy on<br />

the display is displayed in 0.1°C. However the controller has an internal accuracy of 0.01°C. Two decimal<br />

readout also is available via the RS232 and the free Tamcom software. Due to the "self heating" of the stirring<br />

mechanism and when using a top lid, the minimum temperature lies approximately 5K above the ambient<br />

APPLICATION<br />

To connect two or more devices to one cold flow of a <strong>Tamson</strong> circulator.<br />

MAIN CHARACTERISTICS<br />

The manifold unit can be mounted on the wall and uses manual valves connecting<br />

the analysers to the circulating cold flow. The manifold can be used to connect 2<br />

devices to a single low temperature circulator. The manifold can be set in series<br />

offering 4 devices to be connected to one cooling circulator. Its small dimensions,<br />

270 x 126 mm (WxH), makes it easy to mount and install.<br />

The manifold is well insulated. <strong>Tamson</strong> also provides low temperature insulated<br />

hoses to safely and easy connect the cold property apparatus. These hoses<br />

consist of a flexible stainless steel inner hose and are insulated with black<br />

armaflex covered with a protecting nylon sleeve. All connections are standard<br />

3/8" BSP. For interconnection to other threads, stainless steel adaptor pieces are available.<br />
