385 DIRECTED STUDYARCHITECTURE 3 UNITS CSU<br />

Allows students to pursue Directed Study in Architecture, on a<br />

contract basis under the direction of a supervising instructor.<br />

Credit Limit: A maximum of 3 units in Directed Study may be taken<br />

for credit.<br />

Architecture is approved for Cooperative Work Experience<br />

200 RESIDENTIAL PLANNING 3 UNITS CSU RPT 3<br />

Prerequisite: Completion of Architecture 170 with a grade of “C” or<br />

better, one semester of high school or college drafting, or knowledge of<br />

drawing equipment.<br />

A study is made of the small house, its layout livability, size,<br />

orientation, cost, furnishings, equipment, decoration, <strong>and</strong><br />

future inhabitants. Plans <strong>and</strong> specifications are studied. Special<br />

emphasis of a design approach such as computer design is<br />

included.<br />

ART<br />

101 SURVEY OF ART HISTORY I 3 UNITS UC:CSU<br />

A study is made of the historical development of art from the<br />

Prehistoric through the Gothic periods with attention given to<br />

an analysis of the works of each period. This is a required course<br />

for upper division art majors.<br />

102 SURVEY OF ART HISTORY II 3 UNITS UC:CSU<br />

A study is made of the historical development of art from the<br />

Renaissance period to the contemporary scene with emphasis<br />

on the cultural changes which influence the evolution of styles.<br />

103 ART APPRECIATION I 3 UNITS UC:CSU<br />

This is a cultural course designed to acquaint the student with<br />

the art products of our civilization <strong>and</strong> to provide a basis <strong>and</strong><br />

an underst<strong>and</strong>ing of the fundamental art principles expressed<br />

in both the useful <strong>and</strong> the fine arts. It is recommended for<br />

non-art majors.<br />

185 DIRECTED STUDYART HONORS 1 UNIT UC*:CSU <br />

RPT 2<br />

By arrangement with instructor.<br />

This course allows the student to pursue further study in an<br />

art area of their choice. They will set their own goals <strong>and</strong> work<br />

under the direction of a supervising instructor.<br />

201 DRAWING I 3 UNITS UC:CSU<br />

Recommended: concurrent enrollment in Art 501.<br />

This course provides beginning instruction in pencil drawing<br />

<strong>and</strong> the use of charcoal, chalk, ink, <strong>and</strong> other drawing media.<br />

Subject matter from nature <strong>and</strong> still life is included. It is a basic<br />

art course for all art majors <strong>and</strong> is recommended for other<br />

beginners.<br />

202 DRAWING II 3 UNITS UC:CSU<br />

Prerequisite: Completion of Art 201 with a grade of “C” or better.<br />

This course is a continuation of Art 201. Various systems of<br />

graphic expression are explored <strong>and</strong> several media are used.<br />

Individual projects are included.<br />

204 LIFE DRAWING I 3 UNITS UC:CSU<br />

Recommended prerequisite: Completion of Art 201 <strong>and</strong> 501 with grades<br />

of “C” or better.<br />

Figure structure <strong>and</strong> figure anatomy are studied. Figure drawing<br />

from life in various media is included.<br />

205 LIFE DRAWING II 3 UNITS UC:CSU<br />

Prerequisite: Completion of Art 204 with a grade of “C” or better.<br />

206 LIFE DRAWING III 3 UNITS UC:CSU<br />

Prerequisite: Completion of Art 205 with a grade of “C” or better.<br />

207 LIFE DRAWING IV 3 UNITS UC:CSU<br />

Prerequisite: Completion of Art 206 with a grade of “C” or better.<br />

Art 205, 206 <strong>and</strong> 207 courses provide experience in drawing<br />

with various media. Pictorial experiences are included, along<br />

with development of personal imagery <strong>and</strong> style.<br />

209 PERSPECTIVE DRAWING I 3 UNITS UC:CSU<br />

Topics studied include one-, two-, or three-point perspective,<br />

problems in perspective drawing of objects, shading, freeh<strong>and</strong><br />

sketching, <strong>and</strong> rendering.<br />
