This course covers the essentials of the successful start up<br />

<strong>and</strong> management of a small business. Store location, layout,<br />

organization, merch<strong>and</strong>ise control, buying, pricing, advertising,<br />

government regulations, labor relations, public relations, <strong>and</strong><br />

other phases of small business are studied. Particular emphasis<br />

is placed on entrepreneurship <strong>and</strong> business start-ups.<br />

31 HUMAN RELATIONS FOR EMPLOYEES 3 UNITS CSU<br />

This course assists students in developing <strong>and</strong> improving<br />

traits desirable for success in business. Emphasis is placed on<br />

techniques to insure good human relations with individuals or<br />

groups. Effective study methods, work organizations, career<br />

planning, <strong>and</strong> the ability to present oneself to an employer for<br />

employment or advancement are included.<br />

Human resource management techniques <strong>and</strong> procedures<br />

are studied. Topics included are selection, placement, testing,<br />

This course presents the fundamentals of salesmanship of ideas,<br />

<strong>and</strong> selling of one’s personality as well as on selling procedures.<br />

Practice is given in sales presentations.<br />

21 PRINCIPLES OF MARKETING 3 UNITS CSU<br />

This survey course presents basic information including the<br />

marketing environment <strong>and</strong> the roles of market research,<br />

advertising, public relations, planning, pricing <strong>and</strong> distribution<br />

in the marketing process. Practical experience in planning a<br />

promotion may be provided.<br />

31 RETAIL MERCHANDISING 3 UNITS<br />

Instruction in the principles <strong>and</strong> procedures involved in retailing<br />

in a global <strong>and</strong> multicultural environment. Applies the concept<br />

of fulfillment of customer wants <strong>and</strong> needs at a fair profit to<br />

department stores, mass merch<strong>and</strong>izing outlets, independent<br />

<strong>and</strong> chain stores, <strong>and</strong> non-store retailing, such as e-tailing.<br />

121 ESSENTIALS OF PLANE GEOMETRY 3 UNITS<br />

Prerequisite: Completion of Mathematics 123 A & B or equivalents with<br />

This course covers the definitions, axioms <strong>and</strong> theorems of<br />

geometry relating to angles, lines, circles, polygons <strong>and</strong><br />

polyhedra. The meaning <strong>and</strong> techniques of logical proof are<br />

heavily emphasized.<br />

123 ELEMENTARY AND INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA 12<br />

Prerequisite: Completion of Mathematics 112 or equivalent with a grade<br />

of “C” or better.<br />

This course provides a combined study of elementary <strong>and</strong><br />

intermediate algebra topics, fulfilling any intermediate algebra<br />

requisite. Topics covered include exponents, radicals, solutions<br />

of equations <strong>and</strong> inequalities, functions <strong>and</strong> their graphs,<br />
