effects on environmental interests.<br />

1.10 Similarly, the Habitats Regulations 2006 require local authorities to<br />

assess the potential impacts of land use plans on the Natura 2000<br />

network of European protected sites. This includes Special Areas of<br />

Conservation and Special Protection Areas. Ramsar Sites are also<br />

included under UK Government policy. The assessment, known as the<br />

‘Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA)’, tells us whether there is likely<br />

to be any significant effect on any European site.<br />
