A MESSAGE FROM THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT Bill Matthews, ’90
Dear Alumni:
This letter has been more difficult to write
than the others that I have sent to you
throughout my time as President; I realize
that these two years have passed very quickly
and this will be my last opportunity to
address you in my role as President of the
La Salle University Alumni Association. First,
I want to thank you for the opportunity
that my family and I have had to serve you.
I have spent much time charting the course
for our alumni programs at La Salle, attending
events both near and far, and growing
the number of active alumni members.
Nancy and I, along with our three boys,
Billy, Christopher, and Zach, have enjoyed all
of our time working for you and with you.
I congratulate Mike Diccicco, ’71, Jim Ahern,
’70, Tim Tilson, ’94, and Tom Leonard, ’70, on
their election as officers of the Alumni
Association for the next two years. I can tell
you without reservation that you will be
well-served by a group of dedicated men
who will build on our successes and continue
to bring new and interesting programs to
you. I also want to thank Jim Gulick, ’89,
Assistant Vice President for Alumni Relations,
and his staff for their tremendous efforts in
advancing alumni relations at La Salle
University. In addition, we have the full support
of the University and the Board of
Trustees. Their endorsement of our programs
and initiatives has fostered our success.

These past two years, we have brought you
dynamic and varied programming for alumni
of all ages. We have improved the way
we communicate with you and continue to
improve the ways all of you can communicate
with one another through the use of
the mylasalle Alumni WebPortal. I urge you
to explore mylasalle today. We have also
focused on community service, and I will
remain committed to future projects in and
around the University community. The
University is a vital player in the community
around 20th and Olney, and therefore, I
feel it is important for the Alumni
Association to partner with the University
and community leaders to continue the
good work we’ve begun.
Your Alumni Board of Directors is one of the
strongest groups that the Alumni
Association has ever been blessed with. The
Alumni Board is comprised of individuals
who want to give back to a university that
did so much for them as students. Working
with my fellow Board members, we have
achieved many successes during my time as
President of the Alumni Association.
As we enter the summer season, we continue
to offer many great ways for you, your
family, classmates, and friends to get
together. Join Nancy, the boys, and me at
Camden Yards July 9 as our Baltimore Club
hosts a picnic followed by the Orioles vs. the
World Champion Boston Red Sox. In addition,
our Downtown Club will host a
Business Persons Special as the Phillies take
on the Dodgers July 21. Of course, we will
have our annual Young Alumni Beach Party
in Avalon, N.J., on Aug. 27. Finally, mark
your calendars for Oct. 29 and plan to
return to campus for Homecoming.
This experience has been truly rewarding
for me and my family, and I thank you for
the wonderful opportunity I have had to
serve you.
