Water is life. That’s an adage we hear from the savannas of Kenya to
the desert cities of the American Southwest. Of all the planet’s water,
freshwater represents just 2.5 percent. And these lakes and rivers are
also important for agriculture, energy generation and the transportation
of goods and services. At current rates of growth and consumption, water
scarcity will affect more than 4 billion people by the year 2050. But
innovative solutions for how we use—and reuse—our limited freshwater
supplies can continue to serve people’s and nature’s needs.
