Lesson 3
Preassessment/Launch (10 minutes)
• Review the answers to Worksheet #5: Trig Word Problems and collect
for a grade.
Teacher Facilitation (30 minutes)
• Hand out Worksheet #6: Finding the Area of Regular
Pentagons
• Work with students to continue the worksheet. They will
be using Sketchpad to demonstrate the sine function as a ratio.
Student Application (45 minutes)
• Have students work independently to complete the
worksheet.
• Have students complete Worksheet #7: Pentagon Practice.
They should not use Sketchpad. If necessary, they may complete for
homework.
Embedded Assessment
• The teacher should monitor student progress on the
worksheets as an ongoing assessment.
Reteaching/Extension
• For those who have understood the lesson, use the concepts learned to
extend to find the areas of other regular polygons.
Summative Assessment:
Quiz: Trig Functions and Area of Regular Polygons covers the concepts
over the last three lessons. Problem #14 is an ECR. For grading use the
Maryland State Rubric for HSA at
