75 engr regt National Trust (MACC) Task 202 Field Squadron deployed to Penally Training Camp, South Wales. Thirty officers and soldiers from the Failsworth based Territorial Army Centre (TAC) volunteered their services on a Military Aid to the Civilian Community (MACC) Task. Officer Commanding Maj Paul Gray from Failsworth and his Squadron had just ten days to transform an area of disused grassland into a functional car park for the National Trust’s Stackpole Estate. As well as benefiting the local community, the task was an ideal opportunity for the soldiers to get valuable hands on training experience within the construction work place. The Squadron are roled as Combat Engineers and this task was an ideal opportunity for its soldiers to practise their trades, such as Combat Engineers, Drivers, Plant Operators and Signallers as well as testing the chain of command. The usual day was PT at 0600 hrs followed by breakfast and a parade at 0745 hrs, works started on site at 0830 hrs and works cease at 2100 hrs. Meals would be provided on site by the QM’s staff. SAPPER 0ld COMRADES REMEMber Members view the 49th Div Memorial at the NMA by WO1 (RSM) FARRANT Having just finished the RSM Convention at RMA Sandhurst, I had to rush back to Warrington to prepare for the North West Group Royal Engineers <strong>Association</strong> Weekend. Saturday 10 September saw the group travelling to Peninsula Barracks for the annual Group Standard Bearer Competition to select our representative for the Standard Bearer Competition at the Corps Memorial Weekend. The judges were drafted in from the Royal British Legion and were very thorough, doing a sterling job, judging well. The weather was not very kind to the competitors on the day and the wind blew hard, making it very difficult to carry out their drill. It was a hard fought competition but there could be only one victor, with Mick Crook from the Potteries Branch taking the first prize. There were a number of spectators to support the competitors and the morning finished with a spot of lunch and a prize giving ceremony. On the Sunday we travelled down to Staffordshire to visit the National Memorial Arboretum. We all arrived in time to attend the service of remembrance and a short talk about the Arboretum. Once that had finished, all 60 of us headed to the Corps Memorial in order for me to record the visit with a group photo, between two of the Falkland Rocks.
