This edition’s cover story features Oando Energy Services’ emergence as Nigeria largest indigenous drilling services provider, with a fleet of five rigs and an investment of over $250 million. In our usual proactive manner, two of these rigs have already secured a $150 million, two-year drilling contract. (OESL), Nigeria’s foremost indigenous oilfield services company, signed a $150 million two-year drilling contract with Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) for its oilfields in the Niger Delta. This contract further demonstrates the company’s commitment to its audacious upstream expansion having invested significantly in the rigs business over the last two years with aspirations of becoming a dominant player in the land and swamp rig business. In execution of the contract, Oando will be deploying two of its most sophisticated swamp rigs in its fleet with the capacity to drill under high temperatures, high pressure of 15,000 psi and to depths in excess of 30,000ft. The alliance could not have been better as Business Day is Nigeria’s leading business journal with international affiliations, while Oando, Nigeria’s foremost integrated energy solutions provider, leads indigenous content in the global business of upstream operations. The forum stimulated conversations amongst 120 specially selected CEOs from different sectors of the economy and government bodies to examine amongst other issues; • The effect of the global financial crisis on the Nigerian economy • The rise of the African consumer • Emerging opportunities or dawn of a new era; perspectives on manufacturing • Issues on innovative models for public/private partnerships. • Lessons from China’s rise and its role in the Nigerian economy. Wale Tinubu, Group Chief Executive, Oando PLC was a member of the carefully selected panelists to examine issues in private and public sectors partnership. The panel also had Rotimi Oyekan, Commissioner for Finance, Lagos State, who represented the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, (SAN). Other distinguished speakers at the event also include, Mr. Lamido Sanusi, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, who was then CEO of the First Bank; Pat Utomi of Lagos Business School; Aliko Dangote of Dangote Group, Bismark Rewane of Financial Derivatives; Onajite Okoloko; Solomon Quaynor of International Finance Corporation (IFC); Stella Okoli, founder/CEO of Emzor Pharmaceutical Industries; and Foluso Philips of Philips Consulting.
