Upstream Oando at the 2009 OTC Conference in Houston, Texas Founded in 1969, the Offshore Technology Conference is the world’s foremost event for the development of offshore resources in the fields of drilling, exploration, production, and environmental protection. OTC is held annually at Reliant Center in Houston. This year’s edition was from May 4-7 2009.Oando PLC as a key player in the oil and gas industry graced the occasion with it’s presence, exhibiting its product and services in a double decked stand which was situated at the Petan Nigeria section. This year’s technical program offered special sessions on significant industry topics, such as the future of petroleum, the potential of gas hydrates as a future energy source, and the challenges facing the industry in meeting increasing demand for energy, The beautifully branded stand was a beehive of activities as it attracted top executives from other sectors We rounded off the conference on an excellent note, with a business cocktail party hosted by the Group Chief Executive, Mr. Wale Tinubu to engage foremost upstream companies, prospective financiers and governmental regulatory bodies on upstream matters and to acquaint them with Oando’s huge investments in the upstream arm of its business and our full fledged support for the drive for the Nigerian Content Initiative. This event took place at the Houstonian Hotel, in Houston, Texas. Upstream OES Presents to National Content Development Local Content or Nigerian Content (as the case may be) is no doubt a widely accepted concept in the oil and gas industry. However implementing its objectives is a major responsibility that has been vested on all players –both local and international – in the industry. One indigenous company that has the capacity to operate according to the local content dictates in terms of local development of technical expertise is Oando Energy Services Limited (OESL). Driven by an indigenous management team, Oando Energy Services Limited (OESL) is a wholly owned indigenous drilling company that operates in Nigeria. With the acquisition of five drilling rigs, construction of mud plants in Onne and the huge supply of drill bits all sourced within the country, it has demonstrated its commitment to the National Content initiative of the Federal Government. To enhance its image and create awareness of the support it has given National Content initiative to date, a team of OESL Management paid a courtesy visit to the Management of the National Content Development Division at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation in Abuja. It highlighted the strength of its assets, its technical capability as well as its management team. This very impressive and commendable presentation got the attention of the NCD team and they promised their wholehearted support to OESL in tackling some of the challenges highlighted during the course of the presentation. Mr. Sola Falodun led the OESL team comprising Dr. Olushola Ismail, Samuel Umeh while Olasunmbo Olajubu provided necessary business communication support. Okorie of the National Content Development monitoring department Oando Sponsors Ohada International Conference On the 3 rd of June 2009, the Organization of Harmonization of Business Laws in Africa (OHADA) held its international conference and book presentation at the Metropolitan Cub Victoria Island, Lagos. The objective was to create awareness and bring knowledge of Ohada’s Laws to the doorsteps of all stakeholders whose businesses cut across borders in Africa. Oando participated in this conference and book launch at a Platinum Sponsorship level to show support and interest in business laws that would guide business practices in Africa.
