What a Difference
For the Olympic Medical Center Foundation, 2010 provided another opportunity to celebrate the
T
hroughout the year, Olympic
Medical and the Olympic Medical
Center Foundation played host
that marked a tremendous outpouring
of support in both Sequim and Port
Angeles. Read on for a closer look at
some of the events that made 2010
memorable for Olympic Medical and the
Winemaker’s Gala
Marking the eighth annual celebration
of the Harvest of Hope Winemaker’s
Gala, the 2010 event invited guests to
celebrate “An Evening in the Pacific
Northwest.” Nearly 200 people gathered
at the SunLand Golf and Country Club
in Sequim to enjoy a four-course feast
of Northwestern fare prepared by Chef
Doug Seaver. Along with the delicious
meal, attendees participated in an
educational course about wines from
Oregon’s Willamette Valley offered by
Matt McCleary of Noble Wines.
Guests at the Harvest of Hope event
also participated in a live auction to raise
funds for the Thomas Family Cancer
Center at Olympic Medical. Participation
was overwhelming, and the event raised
$125,000, a nearly $15,000 increase
from the 2009 event.
“The generosity of guests at the 2010
Harvest of Hope Gala helped make
the event the second most successful
in the eight years we have hosted
the celebration,” says Sara Maloney,
associate executive director of the
Foundation. “The exciting auction
and the powerful testimony of cancer
survivor Dennis Lefevre truly made the
night memorable.”
Red, Set, Go!
Heart Luncheon
Held in February 2010, the third
annual Red, Set, Go! Heart Luncheon
set a fundraising record of its own,
raising close to $49,000. Marking
Olympic Medical’s yearly celebration
of heart health, the luncheon educates
guests about the importance of knowing
the dangers of heart disease. The event
sold out two weeks in advance, and 200
guests attended the luncheon.
Participants were treated to a
keynote address by Larri Ann Mishko,
DO, from Jamestown Family Health
Clinic, and a discussion of heart-healthy
living presented by Michael Crim, MD,
family practice physician, and Kara Kurtz
Urnes, MD, board-certified cardiologist.
Throughout the event, donations
were accepted to support Olympic
Medical’s cardiac services department
and the community-wide Automated
External Defibrillator Program, which
works to ensure the presence of
these lifesaving devices in surrounding
communities.
