We stole a military vehicle and came close to<br />

Damascus, then we made a deal with a villager<br />

and came to our village by another vehicle.<br />

Many people were killed, women were molested,<br />

houses of some families in good shape<br />

were plundered, and people were left in poverty<br />

and misery. I was injured by the opponents<br />

as a soldier, but I had to take shelter in<br />

Turkey as Assad’s soldiers injured my heart.<br />

An Interview with Muhsin Asım al Huvec<br />

abu Talat, a Syrian who fled to Turkey and<br />

currently lives in Reyhanlı district of Hatay<br />

Muhsin Asım El Huvec, who was forced by<br />

the Ba’ath party members to grass on opponents,<br />

joined the Free Syrian Army. He had to<br />

take shelter in Turkey due to his old age and<br />

diseases.<br />

Muhsin Asım: I am from Keferderyan village<br />

of the Idlib province in Syria. I am a retired<br />

postal officer. I am 63 years old, and have 5<br />

children (2 sons, 3 daughters). I started my<br />

job by delivering letters and telegraph. I met<br />

lots of people in neighboring villages, towns<br />

and Idlib province. I established relationships<br />

and friendships on every subject. When I was<br />

retired, I started to sell beverages, tobacco,<br />

vegetable, fruit in a booth 2 km. away from<br />

my village on Idlib route. I own a house in<br />

my village and a car. Three of my children are<br />

public officers, and my other two children are<br />

unemployed.<br />

ORSAM: What did you go through after the<br />

outbreak of unrest in Syria? Could you tell us<br />

about the process that brings you to Turkey?<br />

Muhsin Asım: When the unrest broke out in<br />

Syria, the Assad regime the members of the<br />

Ba’ath party in the region asked me to collect<br />

information. As they know that I know the<br />

neighborhood quite well, they demanded me<br />

to grass on people in the opposition and to<br />
